Your Rush Bag Must-Haves

Sorority recruitment season is coming.

Your Rush Bag Must-Haves

No matter which side of sorority recruitment you will be on this coming August, there are several things every girl needs in her tote bag!

1. First of all, you need a really good tote bag.

The LL Bean original boat and tote bag is my all-time favorite. It is a simple and cute canvas bag that can hold anything and everything all while being super study and easy to clean. Don't worry about spills in this bag — it's got your back!

2. A hairbrush

It gets hot out there, and lets face it, back sweat is a real thing. If your hair is down, it will probably be getting a little damp and will tangle like no other. Grab your best brush and get to detangling!

3. Face powder

My favorite face powder is by Clinique because it will matte out the shininess of your face and is good for your skin. Reapplying is huge between parties because trying to look your best in the Southern heat is harder than all the other girls make it seem.

4. Coffee Filters

Patting away your sweat should definitely be on your "Right before the doors open for the next party to-do list" because, girl, it's probably worse than you think. Granted, we're all in the same boat so it doesn't really matter. I refer to this as "Rush Goggles". Coffee filters are perfect for patting your sweat away gently because it won't smear your makeup, and it won't leave behind any little pieces of paper like a tissue would.

5. Mints

Choose your favorite mint and buy three packs. Mints are better than gum because you can digest them and they act quicker. I would also add eating a mint to your "Right before the doors open for the next party to do list" because a huge part of rush is conversation. All you do all day long is talk and talk and talk. It's almost like a huge speed dating convention, and bad breath isn't good for good conversation.

6. Snacks

Girls, sorority recruitment can be rough. Treat yourself and eat your favorite snacks. Another reason for snacks? They'll remind you to eat. Don't let the stress get to you and you forget to eat (and drink water!) and then you pass out in the middle of the party. While no one will judge you, it isn't very good for your health. So be sure to eat eat eat and replenish that H2O!

Some last-minute, but not totally necessary things would be a mirror, some perfume, a camera, a portable phone charger, flip flops and some headphones. Just make sure you can call your mom and enjoy the journey!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
