The Rural City Slicker

Bustling city versus serene countryside

Small town vs big city; which is better? There are perks to both. Cities have plenty of resources, but some people prefer the quiet, country side of life. So which is the best to grow up in? By the end of this, you'll have the answer.

I was born in a large city in California, but spent a lot of my "growing up" in small town Nebraska. Both have their benefits, and both have their disadvantages. Here is a little run down of both:

As I mentioned before, cities have a lot of resources. You can access the best stores, they have the neatest events, and there is always some tourist attraction that you can go visit (for the hundredth time) for fun if you're still bored. I think about how I spent my childhood going to beaches, amusement parks, concerts, and so much more. It is a blast, but sometimes it is not what it is all cut out to be. There is also traffic (not caused by trains or tractors), it can be noisy, crowded, expensive, and not to mention industrial smog. It is an amazing experience, but it comes at a price.

Now let's go to the simpler type of living. There is fresh air, open roads, gorgeous sunsets, and extremely nice people. I love walking down the street in public, and being greeted to and smiled at by strangers. You will also run into someone you know wherever you go. Contrary to some beliefs, we also have colored television and electricity. You probably think that I am kidding, but no. I have met people that have asked me several times if we have access to these things. On the down side, shopping can be difficult (thank goodness for online shopping) and rumors spread faster than melted butter on bread.

So which is best? The answer is both! It all depends on what you have grown up with, as well as what you are most comfortable with. It is all based on your own personal opinion. I have experienced both for the same amount of time, and I still haven't decided which I prefer. I appreciate the perks of both. Maybe when I decide, I will write about that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
