Okay, here’s the scenario: You woke up a little too late for your 10:00 am class. These are the worst classes because it's still just a bit too early but your professor won’t be as understanding if you’re late. You jump out of bed, attempt to brush your hair only to realize that you can’t find your brush. Great. You move to brushing your teeth, squirting toothpaste from the tube while simultaneously shoving the toothbrush in your mouth. Toothpaste is everywhere. It’s fine. You pull on some jeans while still trying to brush your teeth. Finally, you finish and stumble out of your room carrying your stuff to class.

After basically sprinting to class, you arrive a hot sweaty, disheveled mess and have to sit through an hour lecture. Great. You find yourself wondering why you even bothered rushing to class, going to class, going to school… and next thing you know you’ve day dreamed through your hour class only to be abruptly startled when the professor ends the class saying you have a test next time. A test? What did we learn? *insert cuss word here*. You get up, exhausted from your hour long day dream session. You need food. Food or coffee. Or both. Both is good, you decide. You wander your way to the cafe. You decide there is nothing in life that can make you happier than a bagel and a cup of coffee. And then, you see it. It’s standing right there in all its glory. Adorable floppy hair, cute black nose, four legs and a long wagging tail.

At first you just stare in shock and numbness. Then the feelings begin to take over. You are overjoyed. It’s as if the world were in black and white TV before and suddenly you’ve been upgraded to color. It’s like a light from the heaven has shined down on that spot where the adorable creature is standing and said “This is it, this is your calling”. You feel a renewal of energy. It’s better than a shot of espresso. Suddenly you feel alive.

But then, something even better happens. The creature turns it’s big brown head and stares back at you. You make eye contact and suddenly you believe in love at first sight because that is what just happened. You fell in love. It’s long floppy tongue is half hanging from it’s mouth and there's slobber but all you can think of is being kissed by that tongue. The dog now seems to be smiling at you and you smile back. Now there is one thing you must do; pet the dog.

You look up at the owner and see a middle aged woman ordering her coffee. Suddenly you’re scared to ask to pet the glorious animal that she is walking on a leash. You don’t know why. A billion things rush through your head as you sit there and ponder whether to go up and ask to pet the dog or not. But you must pet the dog. You just want to run your fingers through it’s fluffy fur and love it.

You gather up your courage and go up to the woman and ask her to pet her dog. She smiles and lets you. See that wasn’t so bad. And the reward is fulfilling. The dog looks up at you with glistening eyes as you bend down and begin to pet it. You tell the dog it’s such a good boy and bond with the dog. It becomes your new best friend.

And then it’s time to go. You say your goodbyes. Now you aren’t sure what to feel. But you continue your day in a clearly better mood. And you know you will never forget your new best friend.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
