Whether you know your roommate from home, you were matched up randomly or you creepily found each other on Facebook, there's no doubt that you and your roommate have a special bond. She's the first person you see in the morning, she's the last person you see at night and you probably spend a lot of time together in between. As a result, she probably fills a lot of the spots in your life. Your roommate is probably...
1. Your therapist
Within the college setting, there's bound to be drama, and you'll definitely need an outlet for all of your crazy feelings. Your roommate is always there as someone to vent to or a shoulder to cry on. If you're like me, you probably have a lot of late-night talks with your roomie about everything that's going on in your life. And as someone who's going through the same type of stuff as you are, she always gives really good advice.
2. Your wife
Whether it's taking a trip into town to go to the bank with you or accompanying you to the student center to pick up a package, your roommate is pretty much a built-in companion. If you're too lazy to track someone down, it's easy to drag her along on your errands and outings. Plus you may spend so much time together that you'll start to sound like an old married couple.
3. Your life coach
College can often feel like an overwhelming vortex of stress, and there are times when you feel like it's just not worth it or like you should change your entire life plan. But thankfully you have your roommate to reassure you, motivate you and push you to do even better. When it's 10 p.m. and you have two exams the next morning, but you really feel like watching "Grey's Anatomy" and going to bed, she's there to make sure you're studying, and she'll even quiz you to help prepare. You probably owe a lot of your good grades to her too.
4. Your nurse
If you're in college, you're going to get sick. And you're going to get sick more than you would in other situations. That's just the inevitable truth. Luckily, you've got someone living right next to you who is there whether you just want another tissue or you need a bag because you're about to hurl for the 10th time in an hour. And she'll be there for you every step of the way, because she knows you'll do the same for her. But hopefully you're never sick at the same time, because in that case you're just kind of screwed.
5. One of your best friends
If you're lucky, your roommate quickly becomes one of your closest friends. She's there with you to go out and have fun with you, to stay in and watch Netflix with you, to eat with you, to do laundry with you, to study with you and everything in between. She's there for you like no one else, and you wouldn't want it any other way.
Don't forget to thank your roommate for all that she does!
