Roles Reversed: Students Grade Teachers

Who would be interested in grading their teachers/professors?

How interesting would it be if we were able to grade our teachers or professors after each semester of school? After all, they always grade the things we do so why aren’t be able to do the same? Such faculty evaluations in school systems could be all the worth while and could possibly help positively shape the educational system that currently stands today.

Being able to “grade” your teachers or professors after a semester would give you the opportunity to report how the teacher is actually doing in the classroom setting; this includes how their lectures are, how they explain labs, how well they answer questions, etc. This method could lead to more truthful evaluations due to the fact that the teachers would not be graded by their fellow faculty or bosses. Having students evaluate their teachers or professors based off of their personal experience in the class could help shed some light on whether or not teachers are doing what they are supposed to be doing; helping us learn. Students could efficiently record how and why a teacher is or is not doing a good job in the classroom.

When teachers are around students, they are usually themselves; some teachers are absolutely wonderful and teach with enthusiasm and some should just go ahead and resign because teaching is not their specialty. Teachers and professors who do not give good guidance or assistance to students and do “whatever they choose” in the class or lecture room are teachers/professors that are not hindering the educational system. Which students are going to feel motivated to do their best in a school setting if their teachers/professors are not encouraging or interesting while teaching subject material?

It is more often seen in college than in grade school that professors teach any way they wish and if someone doesn’t like it, it doesn’t matter because they are being paid for their credentials. Grade school students are heavily influenced by their teachers as well as are college students by their professors. However, college students do not pay thousands of dollars to receive professors that don’t care. This should not be acceptable at universities. If professors are slacking and aren’t teaching the class effectively to the point that the students are not grasping the overall subject matter, then what are they still doing holding such a position? By being able to grade our own teachers and professors, we will be able to show the board of education how we really feel about their teaching skills.

Teaching is a gift. Many people were blessed with being able to reach others and of being able to help students understand certain subjects but many also just teach for the money and there is a clear cut difference between the two types of people. Would you rather have a teacher who is enthusiastic and inspirational or one that is bored and that doesn’t know how to effectively give you a better understanding of the material?

This is not hate speech towards teachers, just simply an idea of how to better our own education by making a few changes in staff.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
