When the series finale of the hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" first aired, thousands of fans tuning in nationwide freaked out. How dare the writers create such an ending??
*Before you continue on with reading this article, be warned that it contains major spoilers, and several references that will only make sense to true HIMYM fans. If you don't know Ted's middle name, the name of Marshall, Lily, and Ted's college, and the song "Sandcastles in the Sand", you can feel free to read on but be warned that it may or may not make much sense to you.*
Amidst the fan fury, I realized that I was more upset for a different reason than most. The moment I called my friends to rant was not in fact when Tracy died (you had to see that coming from earlier episodes hinting), but rather was when Robin and Barney announced they had gotten a divorce.
Since I am not an avid aficionado of many of today’s popular shows, I’ve made the logical decision to just go back and rewatch the beloved HIMYM. Starting randomly in the 8th season, the beginning of Robin and Barney’s second chance at romance, I find myself more and more frustrated about their divorce. They were an incredible couple, second only to Marshmellow and Lilypad. Here’s why:
1.They had undeniable, on-fire chemistry, as seen by all of Cleveland.

2.They shared a special Canadian heritage.

3.They were both mischievous, albeit manipulative people.
.

4.And sometimes this trait even worked out for the best for all parties. This even included their “arch enemy couple” who ended up getting married because of their meddling.

5.They loved every messed up bit of the other, sleazy quirks and all.

6.She even blessed him with her special approval.

7. They were always there to comfort each other, whether it was when Barney had to give away Brover, or Robin found out she can’t have kids.
8.All of Barney’s Shakespearean, ‘fake’
professions of love. Seriously, they could be wedding vows.

9.Watching them fall for each other at just barely the wrong time kept you rooting for them.
10.They came so close, so many times…
11.Even just their friendship was goals.
12.They were boyfriend and girlfriend before they
even realized.
13.They were sentimental about their relationship,
even after the fact.
14.The proposal was crazy, but EPIC.
15.The Bachelor party was even more crazy and even
more epic.

16.Also, the rehearsal dinner was pretty great.

17. As was this moment

18.And finally, this legendary moment.

Maybe it was just the actors themselves who had better chemistry, I don’t know. All I know is that I’m taking longer and longer to watch episodes because I know the inevitable, devastating ending is coming here soon. Just like Billy Zabka in the Karate Kid, the true hero Barney will lose out, and it will break hearts across the nation.
