A Risen Response To A Fallen World

How to Deal with Brokenness in the Christian Life

A Risen Response To A Fallen World
Stephanie Barros

I often find myself holding my breath when clicking on breaking news websites such as CNN or Fox News. I skip through all of the news channels, just wanting to find a channel that won't speak about violence, politics, and death.

No matter how much I try to avoid this three things, they always creep into my life as I believe they do yours.

This past week, violence crept into my life. The shooting in Pennsylvania hit close to home. The shooting was in a neighborhood I had lived in for a little while, back when my family and I had first immigrated to the United States. This was gruesome, cruel, and pure evil.

Also in the past week, politics crept into my life. The candidate I was hoping to vote for in the presidential election dropped out. Now, I'm reading and researching on whom I, a young college student, will be voting for come November. And here I am, my flesh wanting to find someone perfect for the role as our nation's leader but all that seems to be depicted in the news are each candidate's flaws.

Lastly, death crept into my life. Besides the shooting, a fellow classmate at my university tragically passed away, shocking and shaking the campus.

Violence, politics, death, and many other things bring about terror among people or rub people the wrong way.

That's the world we live in. We live in a world filled to the brim with sin. Our beautiful country of "in God We Trust" is filled to the brim with sin.

We as a human race can't avoid sin because it is implemented into our own flesh ever since the fall of man, and because sin is within us, a perfect being does not exist here on earth.

There is no such thing as a perfect citizen.
There is no such thing as a perfect presidential candidate or president.
There is no such thing as a perfect nation.

There's only one who may call Himself perfect and His name is God.

Now, there may be a few out there who are thinking, "Why would someone as perfect as God cause such horrible things to happen?"

This can be answered with one sentence: In a perfect world, horrible things wouldn't exist. If we lived in a perfect world, we wouldn't need God to lean on in times of trouble.

It's simple - we need Him.

Yes, you can go out and cast your voice by voting.
Yes, you can write an article on your beliefs and opinions.
Yes, you can dream of world peace.
Yes, you can be passionate about changing people's lives and leave your mark in the world.

Ultimately, us as flesh and bones cannot change the world as a whole. We cannot change our nation. At least, we cannot change the world by ourselves.

You alone cannot change the world by yourself.
A group of people alone cannot change the nation by themselves.
A president alone cannot change the nation by him or herself.
A nation alone cannot change the world by itself.

The world alone cannot change itself.

We need Him. We need the Perfect One alone to change the imperfect humans we are and the imperfect world we live in.

He knows that we need Him. It's wired within mankind to want something bigger than ourselves (article link here).

You're probably wondering: "So basically there's nothing I can do to stop my nation from destruction?"

Yes and no.

No, because as it is revealed in the Book of Revelation, the world is destined for destruction. It is currently being slowly destroyed with an ultimate destruction to come.
Within that destruction comes victory from this horrific war the world is fighting– a victory won by the KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS (Revelation 19:16). There will be heaven on earth, a new creation (Revelation 21:1-8).

Yes, because we can get onto our knees and pray.

Pray over our sinful nature that brings about all of the troubles and horrors in life.
Pray over our nation's current and future leaders.
Pray over our nation.
Pray over this world.

Pray with rejoicing in God and all that He has promised for us. Pray in thankfulness to Him for His promise of everlasting life. One joyous day, we will get to bask in the glory of Heaven with our Perfect Father.

In a nation (and world) filled to the brim with sin, only God can cleanse it and make it overflow with His perfect love.

"Look! God's dwelling is with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people,
and God Himself will be with them
and be their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will no longer exist;
grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer,
because the previous things have passed away."

Revelation 21:4

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
