Our world has been turned upside down since the horrific and unjustified murder of George Floyd. The world is angry and they have every right to be. All around the world people are protesting and trying to get their voices heard.
It makes me sick to my stomach that this is something we need to even need to protest. A young boy should not be afraid of going to the convenience store, a woman should not be scared about being pulled over, a man should not get shot because of a useless 20 dollar bill. And I have to say it but if you don't see a problem with all this then you are part of the problem. I have seen many people speak out and let people know that this is wrong. No one should have to be scared every-time there black daughter, son, mother, father, or any family member leave the house. That is just not right.
Black people have the right to protest. They have been wronged so many times and enough is enough. No one is allowed to critique the way they are protesting but them. What kind of world do we live in when Willie Simmons, a black man, has been in prison for 38 years for a $9 robbery while Brock Turner raped a girl behind a dumpster and only served 6 months. An unbelievable crazy one if I say so myself.
People should be using their privilege especially now. I have no idea what black people go through every day but I hear you and I'm listening. I will fight for you and never stop using my voice until everyone matters. Correct the people around you when they say something questionable. Acknowledge you have this privilege and use it the right way. And if you don't know how to educate yourself! It's okay to recognize it and fix it. Netflix has many documentaries that can help educate you. Read!! There are so many books that can help educate you as well. Don't just post a Black Lives Matter post on your story and be done with it. This world needs change and an Instagram post of a black square will only do so much. If you don't have the money to donate, sign petitions! if you do have money then please donate. Support local black businesses. Don't let anyone silence you, your voice matters.
I just want to say one more thing before I list places to donate. I saw a tweet on Twitter that I think people should hear. "All lives can't matter until Black Lives Matter." Here is a website that shows you where you can donate, petitions to sign, who to call, and many other resources.
Use your voice.
