Songs to listen to on your way to school.

I constantly make playlists for all occasions. I have playlists for my walk to work and for train rides. One playlist I have put some effort into lately is my “Ride to School” playlist, because move-in day is quickly approaching. So I thought I would throw some suggestions out there for my fellow college students.

1. "Cool for the Summer" – Demi Lovato

For me, summer was always over when I went back to school. In college, this is not the case! Lovato recently released this single that will be my go-to jam for the next month. As long as your parents are like mine and do not pay attention to lyrics, it can be a family jam session that will lighten the mood as the prepare to send their baby off.

“Cause you and I/ We’re cool for the summer”

2. "Thnks fr th mmrs" – Fall Out Boy

Yah, this is cheesy but it’s such a great sing along! And you can be like “hey, thanks for all the memories hometown, now I’m off to bigger, better things in college!” You may not relate to the whole one night stand part, or the thing about the guy who tastes particularly sweet but hey, it’s catchy.

“Thanks for the memories/ Even though they weren’t that great”

3. "Going Away to College" - Blink 182

This is a no brainer; it’s right in the title! Extra points if you are a girl trying out for the soccer team. You will particularly relate to this one if you are still with your high school sweetheart and are trying to navigate that whole debacle. Every college freshman will relate to line, “I haven’t been this scared in a long time.”

“I’d ditch my lecture to watch the girls play soccer/ Is my picture still hanging in your locker?”

4. "I Love College" - Asher Roth

Let’s hope you don’t pass out with your shoes on first night back, but if you do, this song will reassure you are not alone. This guy truly loves college and wants to stay forever, and I don’t blame him. Pizza a dollar a slice! Yes, please. This song will get you hyped about all the shenanigans that will occur this upcoming semester.

“I can’t tell you what I learned at school/ But I could tell you a story or two”

5. "Time to Say Goodbye" – Andrea Bocelli & Sara Brightman

If you are a fan of Step Brothers, you will know what song I’m talking about. There is the original by Bocelli and Brightman that is actually super meaningful and in Italian, but I prefer the Step Brother's take on this moving ballad. I don't speak Italian, but something about this song makes me feel it is wildly appropriate for your send-off to school. I actually played this as we pulled away from my home. My mom laughed out of pity but, to me, it was a cinematic moment. If you do not know what song I’m talking about, please give it a listen. Don’t mind me as a sit in awe of Will Ferrell’s comedic genius.

Then again, you could just listen to Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake to make your mom happy. That's probably what I'll end up doing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
