Reviewing all the movies I saw over Thanksgiving break

So Thanksgiving break has flown past us, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I know I did. BUT I’m not here to talk about food. As much as food is amazing. What I am here to talk about is all the movies I saw over the week. I saw a lot….. Because I have no self control…. And I love movies….

So let’s get started

The Edge of Seventeen

This film really affected me surprisingly. I went in expecting a typical high school drama that happened to have Hailee Steinfeld (whom I love…), but I came out getting realism. That’s what this movie is, it’s realistic and I saw myself in our main character Nadine. She’s just a depressed, angry, out of luck teenager who just want to be accepted in to society. I know many people like that and I even see that in me, so for a movie to come out that truly speaks to the teenage audience like adults and say “I get you”. That’s something I think that we all need right now. This movie doesn’t even necessarily have a set plot, unless you count the fact that Nadine’s best and only friend is dating her brother pretty much the plot. But I just see this movie as being about the normal high school struggle that people unfortunately have to go through. Sometimes we are a little bit hard to read, sometimes we all just want to scream out and say shit to people that you’ve always wanted to say. I applaud this movie for that. It’s very rare that we come across a movie that just seems to get it. Hailee Steinfeld definitely deserves recognition for her performance as well. It’s very rare to see an actor/actress go out of their comfort zone for a role and I thought she nailed it. Never once did I think that she was acting, she was very real and authentic and I still love her to death. It’s definitely one of my favorites to come out this year so far.

Hacksaw Ridge

Well…. Mel Gibson…. People may think you’re crazy and haha hey you still kind of fucking are.

But DAMMMNNNNN THIS MOVIE WAS GOOD.

For those who don’t know Hacksaw Ridge is about a man (played by Andrew Garfield) who goes in to WW2 not wanting to touch a weapon and then gets awarded the medal of honor.

When I heard Mel Gibson was coming back to film making I was beyond excited. Braveheart and Apocalypto are amazing films and I wanted to see if he still had it and… Yeah he does.

Every single character in this movie is beyond entertaining to watch, they’re all so interesting and tense and I couldn’t take my eyes off them. Which is why when the war scenes happen, they’re all the more brutal because you want to see these characters come out okay, when one of them dies, even if they’re not important, it’s heartbreaking. The war scenes are shot like a horror movie the entire atmosphere just screams “ALL HOPE IS GONE” but then you have the main hero Desmond Doss going out there risking his life to save others. Not only that, but you see his back story and how the military treated him before the battle. He lived a pretty challenging life, aside from meeting the love of his life who is played by Teresa Palmer, which, okay come on her and Andrew Garfield are absolutely adorable as a couple in this… Come on. But aside from that when you’re in the battle sequences, you almost feel like you’re there and you can just smell the smoke and you feel like you can’t see. Which makes it all the more terrifying when the enemy comes on by. Mel Gibson manages to put you in this scenario of this WW2 battle and just asks the audience, would you do the same thing if you were Desmond Doss? What if you weren’t him? Would you just risk trying to save yourself and leave your men behind? It’s really intense stuff and I loved every second of it. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.

Arrival

It’s so hard to review this movie. It mind-fucked me. I think I figured it out after doing some research but I refuse to spoil. So I’m ending it here. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH YOU HAVE TO PAY TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS!!!! I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHY I’M LAUGHING BECAUSE I LITERALLY DO THAT ALL THE TIME ANYWAY! WOW I’M SO COOL!!! LOL NOT! :P :P

Sorry for that. Was…. Too much in the moment even though I shouldn’t be.

Just see the movie.

I loved it so….

Nocturnal Animals

This movie made me ask a lot of questions, in a good way. I really liked Nocturnal Animals…

BUT QUESTIONS

  1. Why does the movie start the way that it does?
  2. Why does Aaron Taylor Johnson look like a rich hillbilly?
  3. Why does Tom Ford want to confuse me?
  4. Why does the movie end the way that it does?
  5. What does Nocturnal Animals as a title mean?
  6. Is this movie pretty much Nightcrawler on acid? Or am I crazy?

My brain hurts…..

Idk. I need to see this movie again. It needs to be analyzed.

Moana

I’m judging by the first half because honestly I fell asleep during the last half because I was exhausted from Black Friday shopping and it didn’t help that the seats were leather and reclining.

But the animation in this movie is stunning. Some of the best that Disney has ever put out, it actually makes me a bit jealous for it. There were times where I wasn’t even paying attention to dialogue because I was immersed into the animation, it was amazing.

This will be the new big thing for kids movies since Frozen, there’s a new song in here that’s pretty much the new Let It Go. Let’s just hope it’s not overplayed like Let It Go.

I’m sorry this review is the worst, probably because I missed half the movie but hey, that’s what happens when you spend most of your day Black Friday shopping trying to kill time to wait for the movie.

Watch all these movies, bye.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
