Atlanta rapper Carlos Walker also known as, Shawty Lo, died in a car crash on Sept. 21, 2016 in South Fulton County after leaving Blue Flame in Atlanta. The crash happened around 2:20 a.m. and his Audi crashed over a guardrail, hit many trees and caught fire at the Cascade Road exit on I-285. It is said because we know I-285 as a death trap and also a parking lot. Literally the interstate is so dangerous it is crazy. Thousands of people die on I-285 yearly, and it is sad. I know personally how dangerous it is, because I commute downtown almost everyday passing plenty of bad accidents. At first word was spread on social media that it was a hit and run accident, but now news sources such as WSBTV have cleared up that it was a single car accident. Waking up to this news was heart breaking. I saw a post on snapchat of someone blasting his song "Foolish" while he was saying RIP Shawty Lo. I was in total disbelief so I checked on twitter and it was a trending hashtag.
With the sudden death of Bankroll Fresh, and now Shawty Lo it hurt me so bad. They were legendary rappers of Atlanta that died too song. Before becoming a solo rapper, Shawty Lo formed the rap group D4L, that had many hit songs such a "Laffy Taffy." Shawty Lo had the clubs banging every weekend with his hits. I remember getting hype when his songs used to come on the radio as a child. Shawty Lo left behind his beautiful kids and family. It is also sad because Shawty Lo just buried his father a couple of days before this incident. With that being said, I wanted to remind readers or introduce for some that do not know much about him, some of his best songs. Reminiscing on these songs gave me some extreme throwback memories. "Dey Know" that came out in 2007, was not my favorite song by him but this song rides. All of Atlanta has to know this song. I remember when this song first came out while I was in middle school everyone was bumping this song. Shawty Lo created the coolest running man dance in my eyes. “Foolish” that came out in 2008 was another great hit by Shawty Lo. This song definitely had school lit and was definitely one of my Myspace songs. "Dunn Dunn” that came out in 2008 was and still is my favorite Shawty Lo song. I love every part of this song. The beat is absolutely sick. Shawty Lo will always be a legend and we will all miss him.
Shawty Lo's manager is the one who confirmed the death on Twitter:
My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart , and his music will live on Long live Shawty Lo King of Bankhead
