When I read this article, I could sort of understand where you are coming from. Seeing too much of someone when you didn't ask for it can always make a person uncomfortable. But the further I read your article, the less I agreed with you. You make the point that cheeky bathing suit bottoms are a trend and that women only wear them to impress men. You want women to have self respect and love their bodies. You don't want women looking trashy in front of family and in front of children. All of these valid points, but made in the wrong way.
You see, while 'cheeky' bathing suit bottoms might be a trend, for some women all bathing suit bottoms are "cheeky." The reason being: some women have big butts. I hate to break it to you, but not all women are going out of there way to find a bathing suit their butt hangs out of, this just seems to happen. It is a natural part of life that girls with big butts have learned to deal with and that you'll have to accept. If you are someone who does not have this struggle, consider yourself lucky. Those of us forced to deal with not having a proper fitting bathing suit bottom ever get awfully tired of this. And awfully tired of people like you telling us we don't have self respect when the point is, we can't find anything else.
To go to your point of women needing to respect their bodies and not dress for men: not all women dress for men. In fact, I'm sure most women do not dress to impress men. Sure, there are plenty of women out looking for a man and dressing in a way they think looks good will help them with that. But the point of it is that women are dressing in a way that makes them feel good and feel like they look good. Not everything is about impressing a man. When a woman puts on clothes, she puts on what feels comfortable. Should that be something more scandalous, then that is what happens. But should that be for you, less scandalous, then that is okay too. What is not okay is publicly judging how someone dresses because it isn't how you personally would dress. Those comments can be kept to yourself.
All in all, I think you need to understand that yes, we are characters of substance and value, but how we choose to look does not lessen that. Wearing clothing that you might not view as appropriate does not mean that woman respects herself any less. We should all respect all women, no matter what they choose to wear. And not to mention, that some women can't find items that fit the standard you're asking of them. Because for some us, cheeky is all we have to work with.
