The new school year is the perfect time for a fresh start. It is full of possibility. It can be difficult to keep the motivation and positivity going throughout the school year. It is especially easy to feel overwhelmed if you lose sight of your goals. My favorite way to start the school year is to make some resolutions. Granted, resolutions are just plain difficult to keep, but it can be motivational to have set goals. Here are some ideas on new school year resolutions that I consider to be important and am hoping to keep.
1. Step outside your comfort zone.
It is always nice to do things you like and know you are going to enjoy, but sometimes that can put you in a rut. This school year, take some chances, meet new people and do things you normally wouldn't. You could find things and people you like that you wouldn't have otherwise. It could also help you grow as a person, which, after all, is what college is all about!
2. Let go of toxic friendships.
The people you surround yourself with have a major impact on your life. If you have people in your life who are continuously bringing you down or bringing stress and negativity in your life, it might be time to cut the cord, so to speak. Removing negativity can change every aspect of your life.
3. Put yourself and your needs first.
Going off of the last one, it is so important to take care of yourself. While we should take other people into consideration, it can be easy to get swept up into making other people your priority. When we do this, we are only hurting ourselves. Everyone has different needs and desires. Your job, first and foremost, is taking care of yourself.
4. Making better eating choices.
This can be difficult when you're a college student. The combination of late nights and the availability of affordable food makes it easier to make unhealthy choices. While I am not suggesting that you cut these foods out of your life completely, eating unhealthy food less often and making better health choices is going to pay off in the long run.
5. Find a balance between school and a social life.
This is crucial for college students, and is something that I've been working on for a while. Classes are difficult, require time and attention, and should be a priority. However, having a social life is just as important to keep you from feeling overwhelmed. Both these aspects contribute to a college experience, and finding the balance will help make college a far better experience.
These are only ideas for goals to have for the new school year. Each person could have completely different things they want to work on. Either way, there is no doubt in my mind that it is going to be a great school year.
