A Requiem For A Broken Heart

A consolation piece to those whose heart has fallen into shatters.

The world shrinks into a freezing ocean and you are on the sole piece of land. And the black waves violently crashing onto shore are memories, all the precious beautiful memories turned into mockery, into a farce.

Reality slips, or settles- you aren't sure- you aren't sure if the fact that you've lost something precious is real or if it in itself ever was real.

There is a strange feeling after the storm. You're not peaceful, or irate. You're fractured. But the human soul being indestructible, you continue to walk. Yet you see the world differently. It is said that people who are happy, people who are in love, these people see the world differently. Perhaps they see themselves in others, and what they have in what others have. Their love, their joy and happiness, it is reflected around them.

Same also goes for reverse. Except that the vision you gain from heartbreak, like a gift from a twisted angel, it never goes away. Not truly. You'll see hurt in others, weakness, lies, flaws, and so much blackness. You'll eventually move on of course, the human soul is indestructible- but you'll always retain that little shard of your own broken glass heart in your eyes.

And still, no matter how much you've lost, I have one thing to advise. One thing to say, because I sincerely believe in it.

Your heart is never broken BY someone. Your heart ISN'T someone. Your heart is your craziest wildest life goals, it's sneaking out of a boring class with your best friend to go to a carnival, it's waking up with a dream so bizzare you'll never tell anyone about it.

Your heart will be broken, and you'll be hurt. And you'll hate, hate this entire filthy, empty, cold and lonely world.

And then, the storm will be over.

As Rogers and Hammerstein once put it in their timeless masterpiece Carousel:

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams
Be tossed and blown
Walk on
Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
