We've all seen articles stating that a certain list of remixes is almost better than their original songs. That claim will not suffice for these remixes. These remixes are better than their originals. These songs have been irreversibly changed and improved. These remixes have turned these songs into more than just music; they're experiences now. You will never listen to these songs the same way again. Although this list is short, these songs, if you keep an open mind, are guaranteed to be better than their originals.
1. Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix)
This is the remix that sparked my obsession with remixes. One fateful night, this song played over a friend's stereo; although skeptical at first, my life was changed forever when I gave this song a few seconds to impress me. As an avid Lorde fan, I wholeheartedly did not think that "Tennis Court" could really get any better, but I was young and naive then.
Flume's remix of "Tennis Court" is, hands down, one of my absolute favorite remixes because it truly transforms an already incredible song into a majestic experience. Just sit back and enjoy this other worldly remix.
2. Adele - Hello (VXSUAL Remix)
Personally, I could not stand Adele's "Hello" when it first started to play on radio stations nationwide. It's sad, melodramatic, and unpleasant to listen to on the radio when you're having a great day. Although Adele is undeniably incredibly talented, I have to say I was surprised that this song, out of all her songs, managed to make its way on to the radio.
This remix, however, completely changed my opinion on this song. Although the original melancholy tone of the song is lost in the VXSUAL remix, the song is given a new, much-needed depth and attitude.
3. Ellie Goulding - Figure 8 (Xilent Remix)
If we're being honest, I had never heard the original version of "Figure 8" by Ellie Goulding until after I heard this remix, so I may be a little biased on this one.
I think this remix is what the original song should have sounded like. The original version of this song is rather discombobulated with random sounds here and there that attempt to make an impact. This remix ties together all of those banging, crashing sounds with some additional sounds to create an incredibly powerful remix. It's undeniable that you can't feel anything but unstoppable when you listen to this remix.
4. Alessia Cara - Here (Lucian Remix)
Disclaimer: This remix is very catchy and highly addictive. You have been warned.
Lucian completely changed nearly everything about this song except for the lyrics. The background music and additional beats add an upbeat flare and help make the original version of this song, although a fantastic song, sound rather flat and dimensionless.
This remix was the only thing I listened to for about three months. It didn't matter what I was doing; this remix was either playing throughout the room or in my headphones whenever possible. And when it wasn't possible to play the remix out loud, it was stuck in my head. I couldn't get enough of it four months ago, and I still can't get enough of it now.
5. Zayn - Pillowtalk (No Sleep Remix)
I found this remix on a Vine channel that features EDM remixes of popular songs (@_Heart Beatz_). The six second preview of this remix was enough to make me search for the full version almost immediately after hearing it. I listened to about 30 seconds of the full version and immediately added it to my EDM playlist on SoundCloud.
I think this remix is what ascending to heaven sounds like. It is powerful, magical, beautiful, and transcendental all in one. You really just cannot help but feel this remix in every bone and muscle in your body. I dare you not to get goosebumps at least one time while listening to this entire remix.
6. Halsey - Gasoline (Oscar's Remix)
One day, I was curious to see if there were any decent Halsey remixes, so I looked some up on SoundCloud. I played a few songs, but none of them really paid of. And then I found this one. It took a few seconds to kick in, but I eventually had goosebumps for the remainder of the song.
This has officially made the list as one of my all-time favorite remixes because, although it's a completely different sound, the song's tone has been left completely intact and is truly an incredible, audible experience. The remix takes a lot of the lyrics out, but, somehow, you can still understand the message and tone of the song as if the words were still there.
7. James Young Ft. Phoebe Ryan - We Won't (For3igner Bootleg)
Whenever your playlist ends on SoundCloud, it begins to play songs similar to the ones you were listening to. For a few weeks, For3igner's remix of "We Won't" by James Young and Phoebe Ryan began to play after my EDM playlist on SoundCloud. This remix took a long time to grow on me, but one day, when I realized that it was stuck in my head for several hours, I realized that I actually really enjoyed this song.
Like Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8", I had never heard the original of this song until after I had heard the remix. The tone and mood of the original song was left intact with this remix, but the order of the lyrics is rearranged slightly. This remix has also become one of my favorite remixes.
I hope that this list of remixes has allowed you to expand your musical vernacular and open some doors for you. Use this as an opportunity to find new music that you might not have otherwise listened to. You can thank me later.
