5 Reminders You Just Might Need Right Now

As the semester heads into its fourth week, you might be starting to feel the stress of the semester take hold. Here are some reminders to help you through whatever might be going on (trust me, I need them to).

1. It's Okay to Not Be Okay

We live in a world where people are convinced they always need to appear happy to those around them when really, so many of us may be struggling under those fake smiles and forced laughter. Take a second today to remember that having a hard time is not a sign of weakness, but an opportunity for growth. Let yourself feel however you need to.

2. Change doesn't happen overnight

As an impatient person, a lot of times I feel restless when I institute new habits and I don't feel a difference right away. Yet the beautiful thing about life is that often times, good things tend to take time. Change becomes even more powerful when it is something that slowly and steadily happens. Let yourself enjoy the journey to becoming who you want to be.

3. You being you is more than enough

I'll admit, a lot of times, I compare myself to others, wishing I was smarter, healthier, more social, etc. Yet comparison does no justice in our lives, and prevents us from recognizing all the amazing qualities that make up who you are. The next time you feel the need to compare yourself to others, remind yourself that simply being alive and being who you are is a gift and blessing on this Earth.

4. If it is happening to me, it is for me

This is something my aunt has been saying. A lot of times, things happen in our lives that we'd like to avoid, that we think our lives would be better without. Truth is, if something happens in your life, it must be in some way part of your path and is leading you forward, whether you recognize that or not. Let yourself see every experience as a part of your journey, don't discount the hard times, because they matter too.

5. Worry doesn't work!

I wrote a whole article about worry way back when, and as I sit here and write this article today, this reminder seems more crucial than ever. Worry prevents us from moving forward, it disables us from living in the present. Yes, you might have a million things on your to do list, yes you might have other issues going on, but worry is not the answer to solving any of these things. The next time you feel the need to worry, take a second to breathe instead.

I hope these reminders were helpful, have a great week friends!

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.

It's that time of year again- Thanksgiving Break is finally approaching. For college students everywhere, Thanksgiving is a time to relax and not really worry about homework (well, depending on what major you're in). Your relationship doesn´t have to be full of exchanges of lavish gifts. You do not have to go on elaborate dates and try crazy things. While those are great for a relationship, there are much simpler ways to ensure a happy and stable union.
