Sometimes all you need is a reminder. Someone to tell you that everything will turn out okay and life goes on. A gentle reminder that despite the fact your schedule can be crazy, sometimes you just need to take a breather. Here are some of the things I've been reminded of recently.
1. Your Friends Understand Your Hectic Schedule
One of my friends recently described to me how she made a list of all of the people she wanted to keep in touch with when she studied abroad. However, once she made the list she was only stressed out even more. This made her realize that there aren't enough hours in the day and rather stress out about doing everything, she wasn't going to stress. Going to college can become a struggle when you try to manage all of the studying you have to do with the hanging out with your friends. I'm here to tell you, don't worry! If you have to miss out on one coffee date, your friend will understand because she's just as busy as you.
2. Take It One Decision At A Time
With everyone reminding you about snagging the perfect internship, getting volunteer hours in, and building your resume, it can be hard not to think about your future. I mean, most people would say that going to college is preparing you for your future. I would like to present you with another approach. My dad says that you go to college for the experience and not the degree. Girls like to say that you go to college to meet your bridesmaids, not your husband. All of these things help me to realize that while college is about your future, it's also a time to be joyful. You don't have to make every decision today. If you'd rather take a break and have fun with your friends than you should.
3. Don't Spread Yourself Too Thin
Mental health can be a struggle for the stressed out college student. One way to minimize stress is by only doing the things you truly want to do. Don't say yes to everything because you're afraid of feeling left out. Trying to do everything causes stress. Instead pick things especially tailored to your interests and then focus on those things. Relax and only take time to do these things that you care the most about. This is what will sustain and fill you throughout your college experience.
