Here we are, at college having a grand old time! A typical day could be classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. some days, clubs from then until 8 p.m. and right when you want to just go to bed, there's homework (if you don't get distracted by friends). Before you know it a week or two has gone by! And weekends? Down time? What are those?
Then on top of that we've all got worried parents
Being at college has made me appreciate my parents so much more than I ever have before, and it's hard to find someone who doesn't feel the same. Having distance between you and your parents can make you homesick when you're not out and about being a typical college student.
It's easy to lose track of time and forget to update your parents on your life. To them it feels like you've dropped off the grid, and they start to question whether your still alive or not. So don't get annoyed if your parent(s), sometimes your mom more than your dad, text or call you daily, sometimes multiple times a day.
They may be asking, "How are you? Did you eat yet today? How are classes going? Are you getting enough sleep? What did you do last night?"
To most of these you probably respond with a half honest response that goes something like, "I am fine, I ate (a granola bar) this morning. Classes are going well (after pulling some hairs out). I'm sleeping a good amount (If you consider three to five hours good). Last night I hung out with friends (at a a party)."
Specific details can be overlooked, but the important part is to let your parents know your ALIVE! And send them some love, that is just as important. A simple call once a week or a text saying, "Hey I'm alive and well! I'm busy now, we'll talk later, but just wanted to say love you guys!" Because from their point of view, you've fallen off of the grid if it's been more than a week without any contact.
Then, if you don't talk to your parents much, or maybe you do regularly, don't be surprised if your parents want to start tracking you so they know where you are at all times, but take it as a gesture of love! They only want to make sure your in a safe place at all times.
Regardless, your goal is to NOT receive one of these videos from either of your parents!
What you should take away from this is, call your parents, maybe surprise them on their birthday if possible, send them some texts to prove your existence. Because they're constantly thinking about you! Now after reading this, go send some love their way!
