Remember Rebecca Black? "Friday"? Of course you do. If you're reading this you probably clicked on it from Facebook and if you're tech-savvy enough to be reading Odyssey articles from Facebook then you're probably a millennial who remembers Rebecca Black as lyrical genius that brought us "Friday." Or actually I think the guy who raps in the video is the "genius" behind the lyrics that the lovely Rebecca Black sang. Either way it's a great song.
Just in case you don't remember it, you can re-watch it now!
Honestly, who wouldn't love a song that uses about 20 words in total, half of which are the days of the week. I for one will be eternally grateful to Ms. Black for reminding me that Thursday comes before Friday, then Saturday, and Sunday comes afterward. Up until my sophomore year of high school I struggled so much with the days of the week but then finally this song came out and all I had to do was sing it (loudly, obviously) and I suddenly knew the days of the week!
Recently when I remembered this work of genius I watched it again and wondered what Rebecca Black is up to these days. I'm assuming you are now too wondering the same thing. She has a very active YouTube channel, Twitter, and Instagram with around a million followers on each. The girl is seemingly doing well.
Just in case "Friday" wasn't great enough, now Rebecca has posted a video of herself reacting to her own video! Can you believe it?! How did we get so lucky?
My understanding of her career is that it started with the "Friday" video which was made with some sort of company where your parents pay to have a song and video produced. Apparently it was quite a popular thing to do. I don't know if you've hear of "My Jeans" but that song puts "Friday" to shame.
This girl just CANNOT get over her jeans. She's so excited I just can't help but wonder where I can get a pair?!
If it weren't for these YouTube classics what would our chemistry classes have been like sophomore year? We would have had to spend that hour and a half actually learning something! But these girls have amazing careers now and I bet they didn't have to sit through chem. I think I might have done something wrong by finishing high school and not writing a song about the days of the week or my favorite pants.
