You can love someone, but you can never love someone as much as you can miss them.

Almost a year ago I lost my grandma. My grandma was an incredible woman who spoke her mind and did not have much of filter; she was smart and loved reading, and she always seemed fearless. She was, as Lucas Scott described Brooke Davis in one of my favorite TV shows, "Fiercely independent. Brilliant and beautiful and brave."

In March of 2015, I lost my Grandpa; he was the first person close to me to pass away, and his death broke my heart into a million pieces.

I know that I am still grieving over the loss of my grandparents and will continue to grieve for years to come, however, I have found peace in knowing they are together again. Even though I have found that little piece of peace, I still have tidal waves of grief that hit me almost daily, and I have found music and writing to be my solace during times when the grief is so heavy and strong I feel like I cannot breathe. These are all lyrics that have helped me cope with the loss of my grandparents. I hope that they might help you as much as they've helped me.

1. "Keep Me in Your Heart" by Warren Zevon

Shadows are fallin' and I'm runnin' out of breath, Keep me in your heart for awhile, If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less, Keep me in your heart for awhile

2. "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World

So what would you think of me now, So lucky, So strong, So proud? I never said thank you for that, Now I'll never have the chance

3. "Lullabies" by All Time Low

Sing me to sleep, I'll see you in my dreams, waiting to say, "I miss you. I'm so sorry." Forever's never seemed so long as when you're not around it's like a piece of me is missing

4. "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

So let the light guide your way, yeah. Hold every memory as you go, And every road you take will always lead you home, home. It's been a long day without you, my friend, And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. We've come a long way from where we began. Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again

5. "U.N.I." by Ed Sheeran

I don't get waves of missing you anymore, they're more like tsunami tides in my eyes

6. "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane

And if you have a minute, why we go talk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everything so why don't we go somewhere only we know?

7. "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman

You've got troubles, and I've got 'em too. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you. We stick together and can see it through 'cause you've got a friend in me

8. "He Lives in You" by Lebo M

He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see into the waters, into the truth. In your reflection, he lives in you

9. "Someone's Watching Over Me" by Hilary Duff

All I know is you're not here to say what you always used to say, but it's written in the sky tonight. So I won't give up, no I won't break down, sooner than it seems life turns around. And I will be strong even if it all goes wrong. When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe someone's watching over me

10. "Rivers and Roads" by The Head and the Heart

Nothing is as it has been and I miss your face like hell and I guess it's just as well but I miss your face like hell

11. "Supermarket Flowers" by Ed Sheeran

Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know a heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved. So I'll sign Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum. When I fell down you'd be there holding me up. Spread your wings as you go and when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah you're home

12. "You'll Be in My Heart" by Phil Collins

When destiny calls you, you must be strong. I may not be with you, but you got to hold on. They'll see in time, I know. We'll show them together

13. "Fix You" by Coldplay

When the tears come streaming down your face. When you lose something you can't replace. When you love someone but it goes to waste. Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones and I will try to fix you

14. "I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)" by Auli'i Cravalho

I will carry you here in my heart, you remind me that come what may, I know the way

15. "Ronan" by Taylor Swift and Maya Thompson

And what if I really thought some miracle would see us through? What if the miracle was even getting one moment with you?

16. "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera

There's nothing I wouldn't do to hear your voice again, sometimes I wanna call you but I know you won't be there

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
