When it comes to freshman roommates, I'm one of the lucky ones. I genuinely believe that I had one of the best roommate situations a first year student can have. I went into college living with a stranger, and I came out with a best friend. Now that we're no longer roommates (but still best friends), I find us reminiscing constantly. I love it, love you and love all the "remember when's" we have. Remember when we were freshman roommates?
Remember when we first stalked each other on social media?
Extensive social media stalking was one of the most important parts of the entire roommate process because that's where it all starts. We found out everything we could about each other without actually asking, and once we actually met each other, we had to pretend we didn't know about the trip the other one took to Mexico in 2010.
Remember when we started talking?
We had to get all the basic questions out of the way first. It started with questions about major and hometown and slowly progressed to the more important questions like, "Are you a heavy or light sleeper?" and "What shows do you binge watch on Netflix?" Those are the questions that set the tone for the entire roommateship.
Remember when we couldn't wait to meet IRL?
The day we officially became roommates I couldn't wait to meet you, decorate our room and have the best year ever.
Remember move-in day?
I was super nervous and super excited to meet you. Weeks before move-in, I was so anxious about making a good first impression in person. Do I hug you? Shake your hand? (Obviously went for the awkward hug.)
Remember the first night we went out?
You were one of the only people I knew at this point so of course we stuck together for our first night out in college. We had each other's backs from the very start.
Remember when we ate almost every meal together?
You were always willing to go with me to get food whenever. We never had to eat alone because we always had each other to eat with.
Remember when we motivated each other to work out?
Honestly, I would have gone to the gym so much less if it weren't for you.
Or when we motivated each other to do anything but work out?
"Don't go work out! Just stay here and hang out with me."
Remember when we always knew just what to say?
Whenever one of us was sad, upset, homesick or heartbroken, the other one always knew just what to say to make it better. You could always calm me down whenever things we're going so well, and I thank you for that.
Remember when we would text each other from across the room?

Whether it was in the bigger group message, a link to a video or actual regular texting, we probably did this a lot more than we should have. This always ended up in real laughter instead of a solid "LOL," which was always more rewarding.
Remember when we would stay up until 2 in the morning just talking?
Sometimes, we had no real reason to stay up late on school nights, but over time it was normal to just chat until one of us fell asleep.
Remember when we always kept each other in the loop?
Whenever something happened in our own lives, our friends',or our neighbors', you were always the first to know. A common phrase after walking into the room became: "OMG guess what just happened?"
Remember when we knew each other's entire schedules?
I knew your class and extracurricular schedule almost as well as my own. We knew about each other's big exams and stressful days. And we could never hide the fact that we slept through an 8 a.m.
Remember when we got annoyed with each other for stupid little reasons?
This rarely happened, and when it did, we always knew how to resolve it. It was more like being annoyed by a sibling, and we came to love each others' flaws.
Remember when we hung out with each other's families?
We heard so much about each other's families beforehand so it was like we knew them already. You were my family at school so it only makes sense to love your biological family.
Remember when we had to say goodbye at the end of the year?
The fact that we would go months without seeing each other was so sad, but the thing that held me together was that I had at least three more years with you.
Remember the exact moment we became best friends?
Because I don't. Somewhere along the way, it just happened.
