5 Things College Girls In Relationships Are Tired Of Hearing

I didn't ask to hear or want to hear any of these remarks on moving away from my boyfriend for college.

So apparently, when you are going to college and have a boyfriend, you are asking for everyone’s opinion. Here are a few of those remarks that I’ve heard. Not only did I not ask for these people’s opinions, I didn’t care about their opinions either:

1. You’re going that far away?!

Okay, so I was told this because I’m going one single hour away! It only makes me so angry because if I had chosen to go close or where my boyfriend goes, these same people would have said I must have chosen the school because of him. I don’t know why everyone thinks long distance can’t work.

2. I know you love him, but…

You know, just fill this one in with anything that would infuriate you. A few examples are: I know you love him, but there are so many other people; I know you love him, but he could be holding you back. This makes me so angry because if I love him, there isn’t an alternative. You’re not going to convince me to leave him, sorry!

3. You aren’t going to really experience college.

I don’t know who said that college=single, but it’s wrong. I can have friends, join clubs, and even, if I’m feeling really ambitious, go to class. That’s what college is all about, right? Having a boyfriend doesn’t mean that I will only sit in my room and call or text him the whole time. Having a college experience is completely possible with a boyfriend.

4. Maybe you should just think about breaking up, at least for a little bit.

I don’t even remember who exactly said this, but this is probably the worst. I cannot even believe that this was suggested to my face. If I have been with him for so long, why would I break up for college? This actually made me furious.

5. Is he the one?

Okay, this one isn’t too bad. The only reason this one makes me angry is because they automatically assume that because I want to keep my boyfriend that I’m ready to settle down and get married like tomorrow. I want to stay in a relationship with my boyfriend who loves me not rush down to the altar.

If you’re ever thinking about saying this to someone in a relationship, don’t! It’s annoying and unwanted. Instead say something like good luck, I wish you the best! It’s crazy how annoying a little comment can be, and how long it will be remembered.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
