In life, everyone faces obstacles, some much larger than others. These obstacles can come at the best possible times, or they can come at the worst possible times. But, one thing is for sure: the universe doesn’t care what else you are dealing with. There are periods where everything is going great, and then there are periods where everything comes crashing down around you and you feel like there is nothing you can do. All of this is normal because we are only human. We were not designed to carry a world of troubles on our shoulders and still be completely fine. Sometimes we hit a point where we feel like there is no return, but there is. There is a light at the end of every tunnel; you just have to keep looking for it.
Everyone makes mistakes. Choosing the wrong path sometimes is inevitable. How we handle these choices is what makes us who we are. It’s not the action that really means something; it’s how you make up for it. So, what if you had to relive your life? What if you had to go back and follow the exact same path to end up where you are now?
Would you be happy? Do you feel like you would enjoy reliving the life that you have lived up until today? If the answer to that is no, then you need to stop and think. Take a step back and attempt to understand the parts of your life where something went wrong. Could you have handled that life-altering situation differently? Should you have stopped yourself from saying those horrible words to someone who meant so much to you? Should you have spent more time with those you loved and less time worrying about yourself? Would you stop allowing yourself to act without thinking first? You may not be able to change these things now, but you can consider them a lesson for the future.
There is always more than one path to take in life. Sometimes, in the midst of grief and anger and so many other emotions, we lose the paths that we should be taking. No one is perfect, and no one should try to be. Mistakes are only what we make of them, so what are you making of yours? Numerous people say that they wish to live a life without regrets. So, in order to do this we must learn from our mistakes and allow ourselves to grow. Through this growth, we become better people and we stop making these choices that hurt others and ourselves.
Let others help you. You don't have to go through life alone. You don't have to take on everything by yourself. You are not weak if you let someone in. You are strong because you recognize that help is okay.
Our pasts aren't who we are now. Stop looking for excuses as to why you make the choices you make. Stop trying to defend why you keep repeating your actions. You do not have to be on the path you are on. If you don’t like the life you have lived, make a change. Even the smallest choice can impact you. And maybe, once you’ve made some adjustments, the life you didn’t want to relive will become one you’re proud of. Our struggles only make us stronger in the end.
