Why I Refuse To Support Trump
Vanity Fair

The 2016 election has certainly been one of the most controversial races we have seen in American history. We saw very two extremes: Bernie Sanders being the socialist democrat on the left and Donald Trump being a dubious, offensive conservative on the right. Trump has certainly stepped on more than a few toes during his campaign thus far, spouting several comments that illuminate a racist, sexist persona. Trump has had a rocky road at successfully gaining the support of the Republican, but many outspoken supporters of Trump have claimed that he has all the qualities of being the nation's leader. However, there are several reasons why I think his potential presidency would be detrimental.

Many Americans want to reward Trump for being authentic and speaking the truth, even if it means offending large groups of people. However, even if Americans believe that Trump is truly "speaking the truth", he speaks in a manner that offends and insults not only a portion of our population, but other international leaders. Many leaders, even ones in our own country, have spoken out against Trump, saying that his platform is not one that would be successful for our country. My biggest concern with Trump's lack of filter is that as President, he would play the role as Commander-in-Chief. He will speak to other international leaders and may possibly offend them with his outspoken persona, causing countries to have conflict with our country. So many people defend Trump by idolizing his ability to speak his mind, but I think as an international contender, it is imperative our leader be careful with their words.

The one biggest problem I have with Trump's campaign starts at the rudimentary level - his campaign slogan. "Make American Great Again" may give off a nationalistic vibe, but I do not think that is necessarily an appropriate vibe to have at this time. Sure, it is important to have pride in one's country, but to be overly nationalistic is a common characteristic in countries that eventually have extreme internal problems, such as genocides. However, even the fanatical patriotism isn't the main problem I have. The problem I have is that the slogan calls for America to be retroactive - to instead better as a country and progress, it calls for America to retrogress and practice old habits. I do not think America should rewind to a time where racism and sexism was a prominent part of our culture. I think Trump's slogan illuminates many of the ideas that he has that supports a racist and sexist culture.

Overall, I do not think Trump should represent a nation that prides itself on being a melting pot, when Trump himself does not want our country to be a melting pot. Trump ultimately wants make America to support his sexist and racist ideas and isolate a large group of minorities in our country. I cannot support Trump because Trump does not support our country.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
