Be Grateful For Who You Are, Where You Are In Life, And Who Has Been There For You

19
A Reflective Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving approaching in less than three days it is important to remember the things we are thankful for. Here are ten things you should be thankful for this season:

1. Family

They are the number one reason why you are where you are. Be grateful for the times they are hard on you and the times when they see you at your best and worst. They are the ones that have shaped me and you too.

2. Friends

The people who are there for you at the best and worst times besides your family. Be grateful for those who you surround yourself with.

3. Your Education

The one thing that has afforded you to grow as a student, person, and professional. Be grateful for this asset.

4.Caffeine

The absolute gift of the gods. Thanks for getting us all through midterms and finals week.

5. Opportunities Presented To You

When internship or job opportunities present themselves take them, they allow you to grow and they do not come around often. So, be grateful when they do come up as they will give you the most eye opening experiences you cannot get anywhere else.

6. Accepting Your Mistakes And Learning From Them

No decision you make as one of my friends reminds me "isn't a poor life choice." Rather, the times when you fall down are the ones that inspire you and give you strength to grow. Be grateful for those moments.

7. Your Teachers

Odd as it sounds, when you actually get to know your professors, you learn how incredibly passionate, intelligent, and compassionate they are. They want you to succeed. I would not be where I am today without the support from them. Be grateful for those who are willing to push you as a student and person.

8. Your Dogs

The creatures who just get you. Be grateful for their endless love.

9. Food

The most critical component that keeps us alive everyday. Be grateful that you have this luxury as others living in the United States and around the world do not.

10. Your Own Inner Strength

The ability for you to reflect back on where you were one or two years ago, what you THOUGHT you wanted to do, the changes, the good times, the heartbreak, the exciting moments, or the times where you were just over everything. Your ability to come out of all of those times as a strong, independent, intelligent person is (in my book) the most important thing to be grateful for not only for the memories but to yourself.

Happy Thanksgiving

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
