I can hear my momma now. "How you got a college degree and you always broke?" Believe it or not, that is becoming the new norm. So in case any of those investments and endeavors your pursuing doesn't work out here are some options for a Plan B, C, D and so forth. These are some ways to stay ahead so that you can always keep a backup plan.
1. Transcriptionist. Median Salary $15.22/hr
There are many types of transcription services. Depending on the company you work for will depend on how much you get paid. Some are project based, others pay by the amount of time it takes you to complete each dictation. Some lower paying companies pay as little as minimum wage but they would hire you even if you are inexperienced. So all you have to do is go to work, keep your headphones on and your eyes on the screen, and no one needs to know you are broke with a degree.
2. Answering Service. Median Salary $12.10/hr
Similar to Transcribing, the answering service is behind closed doors as well. Answering service operators are also referred to as Switchboard operators depending on the industry you're working in but essentially the roles are similar. Those positions are usually really flexible with their hours of when you can work within the 24 hours in a day. Some companies would even allow overtime if you want it.
3. Uber. Median Salary $25.hr
This is a pretty obvious one. This job is for everybody. Anybody can work for them as long as your car meets the requirements. Of course this average can be skewed depending on the city where you live.
4. Lyft Median Salary $17hr
Like Uber, it all depends on the city. There is a slight cost difference with Lyft and Uber but depending on the type of environment you prefer to be in determines which company you should choose to work for. Uber is more professional so it's expected to be less talk, more driving. Lyft, on the other hand, encourages their drivers to be more engaging with their riders to create more of a welcoming family like experience.
And if you decide to work for both, you can.
5. At Home Customer Service Representative Median Salary $10/hr
Work at Home jobs gets so many bad reviews because there are so many scams out there. Rule of Thumb: If they are asking you to pay anything up front definitely swerve them fast.
Stay on the lookout for free items so you can flip it.
The other day I made $25 on a perfectly fine chest of drawers that was sitting near the trash to be disposed at my complex within 24hrs of me posting it. I also have their TV stand for sale if you want it. Gas money ain't never a problem.
6. Task Rabbit Median Salary $10/hr
I love Task Rabbit. One time I got paid $3,700 over a period of 3 months to help my local community college catch up their accounts payable system as they transitioned over to a new software program. It wasn't through Task Rabbit but conceptually it's the same idea. I wish I could franchise a Task Rabbit because there are so many companies and people who will pay somebody to do their "dirty" work so they can keep up with their daily responsibilities. Task Rabbit connects the two.
Unfortunately, at this time they are not accepting virtual taskers so you would need to check taskrabbit.com to see if it is available near you.
7. Group Fitness Instructor Median Salary $21.48/hr
If you already work out on the regular this is something to consider. Granted in this field clients aren't always consistent but the turnover won't affect you if you keep switching clients regularly. You're getting paid to do something you were going to do anyway.
8. Project Archivist Median Salary $25/hr
This is a slow and mundane position but it is definitely a well-paying one. These jobs, for the most part, are project based which isn't a bad deal because I don't see too many people wanting to do something like this year in and year out. All I know is if the opportunity reveals itself better believe you can certainly make some good money out of it.
9. Marketing Specialist Median Salary $25/hr
There are many companies and organizations that do not have a solid advertising budget. Outsourcing their marketing needs are ideal because they can pay a one or two-time bill for direction on how to maximize their exposure. The truth of the matter is without a web presence a company is almost non-existent.
13. Sign Language Interpreter Median Salary $25/hr

This position is definitely for people who are familiar with audio and visual media. The more the technician knows how to make one's video stand out more, the more likely that individual can become more successful. YouTube tricks and techniques to start making a killing.
17. Tax Preparer Median Salary $12.21/hr
I did this for a while during tax season. A tax attorney paid to get my tax preparers license and I made somewhere around $3,000 in like 3 months just doing tax returns here and there. I did the simpler ones like W2s and 1099s ( I hated doing those), but I made some really good money. The more complicated the preparation the higher you can charge. I worked for a tax attorney and made that kind of money, think about what you can make if you can do it for yourself.
18. Product Photographer Median Salary $35K/year
This may take a decent size initial investment but if you commit to producing a quality product you would be able to rake in some quality coins.
