Until recently I always assumed that an adventure had to be a trip that took you far away or across seas, but who says an adventure can’t just be a something that you simply say yes to a day in advance or maybe agreeing to take a new job in your hometown? Adventures have been turned into this thing where we think we have to hop on a plane and spend hundreds of dollars to travel, but in all honesty, it could be right in our backyards. It doesn’t even have to be physically traveling and that is where we can see the beauty in adventure, the unexpected.
Life nowadays is full of expected things due to our avid planning around very hectic schedules. Sometimes all we need in life is to say no to having a plan for every hour of the day and say yes to something new and different. That’s where adventure can come in when you take a giant leap of faith into an activity that strays from your usual routine or even your usual vacation spots. Don’t get me wrong, going on a planned trip is definitely an adventure, but there can be more than just that, even if it requires you to do less. There are times in life where we have to look things from further away and leave out the details. While that unexpectedness may create an anxious feeling for most people, the best thing to do is try.
Adventures are meant to be things that take you out of your comfort zone and even though some people only want theirs to take them a step out of that zone, others may want to go a mile out of their comfort zone. Whichever person you may be, take a little risk and see where adventure can take you. The journey is not just about the trip itself or the destination, instead, it is about finding yourself or finding out who you can become. We need to stop trying to define adventure and create our own definitions by living it.
This millennial generation is still so young and there may not be that many opportunities as we grow older, but I am sure you could find the time now. At some time and some place you could find the opportunity to take a random leap and go, so do it. While we may be content where we are, adventures can open new doors to a whole world of possibilities. Taking an adventure could lead you to your next job, friend group, partner, community or career. I urge you to take a shot in the dark. Say yes to a random invitation. Go get ice cream at midnight with an old friend. Travel to Colorado with a group of twenty people you don’t know. Try long boarding for the first time. Attempt to knit a blanket. Start a garden. Build your own business. Just simply say yes for a change and see where life can take you.
