It's officially December and you know what that means, Christmas is right around the corner. While most people are fanatics of the holiday, there are those of us who every year miss out on that so-called “Christmas Spirit.” Don’t let it happen again this year. Here are 10 ideas to help you transition into the holiday season.
1. Warm PJs and Fuzzy Socks
This iconic pair is essential. As daylight hours decrease and the temperature lowers, you will find yourself wanting to spend more time laying on your couch watching Netflix and that is totally okay! However, there is a right way and a wrong way of doing it.
2. Decorate, Decorate, and Decorate
I know there are some of us who can`t stand the classic green and red Christmas color scheme, but think outside the box. The point is to make your space more festive, and have fun while you are doing so. Invite friends over and make this a group activity or keep it a solo project. This is a perfect opportunity to test your creativity, who knows you may uncover a secret talent.
3. Scent the Place Up
There is something strangely comforting about holiday scented candles. My personal favorite is the Oak Wood scent. I became especially fond of it this year now that I am on my own. My mom would light the same candle for Christmas every year, and now it`s like I have a piece of home with me. It has definitely helped me overcome my winter blues and my homesickness.
4. Pull Out those Christmas Recipes
Even if the end product is a disaster, you will have tons of fun. Recreate an old family recipe or come up with your own. December is definitely the month to devour sweets.
5. Christmas` Classics Marathon
Upgrade your movie nights by pulling out the old Christmas classics. Personally, Christmas is not Christmas if I have not watched The Grinch, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Home Alone at least ten times each. Not only are Christmas movies great, they were part of our childhood and they bring up so many good memories (when Santa was real.)
6. Reach out to Family and Friends
We are so busy in our daily lives that before we realize it weeks, if not months, have past since we reached out to those we most care for. Take this season as a time to send out a quick text to close family and friends. After all, the point of Christmas is to share with those we love.
7. Volunteer
I know buying gifts and traveling back home can be overwhelming, but use your winter break as an opportunity to help others around you. Volunteer your time or donate to charity. There is something extremely rewarding about knowing that you made a difference in someone else`s life, even if it is small.
8. Create your Own Traditions
Let’s face it, Christmas got ranked down the scale as soon as we found out Santa was not real! Make the holiday more than another shopping trip to the mall. Share time with those you love. Find ways to revive old memories and make new ones.
