Looking at my calendar, reality is setting in. Two weeks from now, I move into school, and summer is coming to a close. As the season comes to an end, so do the many activities that we all love. No more beach trips, no more outdoor concerts, and no more summer glow. So much has happened since May 11, the start of summer. I met so many new people, discovered new music, connected with old friends and had the best vacation one can dream of. Getting nostalgic, I’m going to recap my summer since it was the best one of my life.
Connecting with old friends
The summer after your first year of college, you really get to see who your real friends are. During my junior year of high school, I was really close with a couple girls. For some reason, the following year I had lost touch with some of them. This summer, I was really happy to reconnect with some friends that drifted from my life in high school. The best part is I don’t even know how we all reconnected, but we all hang out as if our friendships were never put on hold. We did everything from attending concerts, to going to the movie theater in our pajamas. As summer comes to a close, I'm so sad that we will all be going our separate ways back to school in the fall, but I am happy for us to all have a solid group of friends to go back to during breaks!
Discovered new music
Summer is the season for upbeat, feel good songs. Music in the summer means so much more because different songs are associated with unforgettable memories. Before this summer, I never went out of my way to find new music. After downloading Spotify, I have fell in love with the process of discovering music. There was nothing like listening to a feel good song and adding it to my summer playlist. Honestly, I found the best music when I was on vacation in California. Their radio stations played some amazing music that I immediately downloaded, such as “This Girls” by Kungs, and “Looking For” by Courage. If I had to pick a song that represented the theme song of my summer it would definitely have to be “Dang!” by Mac Miller.
Vacation
Summer screams vacation. Whether it be camping, a cruise or a relaxing getaway, summer vacation is the perfect time to leave your reality. This summer, I had the best vacation of my life. Believe it or not, I’m actually on an island typing this, and life can’t get any better. I'm here visiting a relative, and what a life he has here. The ocean is only a couple steps away from his house, and the mountaintop views are unreal. My paradise is his reality, isn’t that weird? Parasailing over the Pacific and being able to see the jaw-dropping views of the island was the peak of the summer. When they dipped us down into the ocean, there were seals swimming next to us! I have never been so happy in that very moment. Vacation is a time to experience new things and live carefree. I will definitely be going into a post-vacation depression when I have to go back to work and school. Can't I just travel the world instead?
New friends
You definitely have a different bond with people you meet during the summertime. On my vacation to Catalina Island, I was honored to meet amazing people from Ireland, Scotland and England. They were so kind and treated me like an old friend. We all explored the island together, “fried” at the beach and had lunch dates with the gals. Although I may never see any of them again, I am happy that I was able to experience so many fun activities and create memories with them. Also, if I ever want to travel to any of those places at least I have a couch to crash on!
Beach trips
You can't have a summer break without the beach! I am absolutely going to miss the beach trips I have taken this summer. From the car trips on the way there and singing the top of our lungs, to tanning in the scorching heat, and pretending to be mermaids in the water. I love relaxing on the beach, listening to the ocean. I am not ready for the cold or snow. Please summer, stay forever.
Sleeping in
Although I previously mentioned some pretty cool things about my summer, my all-time favorite would have to be sleeping in until noon. I am not excited to go to my 8 a.m. classes in the fall. It is going to be so hard to get out of bed after having a summer full of beauty sleep.
As summer comes to an close, I like to think about all of the memories that have been made since it started. There are only a few weeks left, and I intend on finishing my summer on a high note. As reality is slowly creeping up, I wish someone recorded all the best moments this summer so that I could relive them all. I know this sounds crazy, but I am already looking forward to next summer.
