It's been four years since we heard the famous words, "You know you love me. Xoxo, Gossip Girl." Yet we can all agree that some of the best episodes of the series involved the Thanksgiving specials. To truly appreciate the scandals and drama surrounding turkey day in New York City, I conducted a recap of all the specials, and what makes them so great. Eat up, Upper East Siders.
Season 1 - "Blair Waldorf Must Pie!"
I'm willing to argue with anyone that this Thanksgiving episode was the best of them all. The main course of the episode was the drama unfolding between Rufus, his wife, Allison and his first love, Lily. There's nothing more Gossip Girl loves than chaos in the family, and that's what she got in this episode. What also makes this episode special is the flashbacks of the previous holiday. Especially seeing Serena's old partying ways - Upper East Siders were in for a real treat.
Season 2 - "The Magnificent Archibalds"
Drama, drama, drama!!! That's what the name of this episode should've been. Between Jenny's emancipation papers, Dan declaring his love for Serena, Bart Bass hiring a PI to dig into his family's past, Nate's father's arrest, and Blair's father making an appearance for the holiday. We barely had time to blink during this episode.
Season 3 - "The Treasure of Serena Madre"
A classic Gossip Girl episode - drama, betrayal, and secrets - except this time there's pie involved. Serena's secret affair with Nate's married cousin left everyone on their toes. Not to mention some Jenny and Eric bickering, which makes this episode an all around mess... in a twisted good way.
Season 4 - "Gaslit"
I will also be quick to argue that this was the least thrilling Thanksgiving episode. If we can even call it a Thanksgiving episode. Though it was filled with drama from Serena being drugged by Juliet, and Blair crossing paths with enemy and recently banished Jenny, it didn't have the classic turkey day feel we all hoped for.
Season 6 - "It's Really Complicated"
Ahhh, the bitter sweet final Thanksgiving episode. The day started out as a good one, with Dan and Serena hosting their very first Thanksgiving together, yet it wouldn't be Gossip Girl without a side of scandal, right? What makes this episode so iconic is everyone's hatred towards Dan for releasing horrible chapters about all his friends. And of course, Nate punching Dan in the face - just amazing.
