Reasons Why You Should "Love Your Melon"
Madeline Mack

A few weeks ago, I found out that my college had a new club on campus. It wasn’t something I expected to find on every college campus. It was the “Love Your Melon College Crew” that was all over my social media, promoting the products and the story behind it. I researched it, and invested in a new beanie from the website. I had always wanted a well-made hat, but never could find a nice one. I picked out a beanie, and can proudly say it was one of the best purchases I ever made. Here’s why:

Founded by two students at the University of St. Thomas, “Love Your Melon” is a nonprofit organization that sells merchandise such as beanies, caps, apparel, and other accessories. The two students who created this, Zach and Brian, started this program in their sophomore year entrepreneurship class and were determined to put a hat on every child battling cancer.

Ever since this organization was started in 2012, it has helped children and their families all over the country with donations and support. If you are considering buying from Love Your Melon, remember all the beautiful things it has to offer:

The merchandise is the absolute cutest

If you look at their website, Love Your Melon has multiple beanies and other apparel and accessories. There are cuffed beanies, cuffed beanies with pompoms, and regular beanies. They also have T-Shirts, sweaters, key chains, and baby clothes!

The Proceeds

When you order something from Love your melon, 50% of the proceeds go to pediatric cancer research. It is so heartwarming to know that you are not only getting something cute in the mail, but your proceeds went to a great cause!

Colleges are getting involved:

Many colleges have started “college crews” for Love Your Melon. The purpose of this is to raise awareness for children who have lost their hair to cancer, and to promote the brand to help those children in need. The students also participate in events for cancer patients and help them achieve a dream they have. It is inspiring to know that college students are making time to do service projects during the stressful school year and who are trying to make a difference.

One size fits all!

When was the last time you purchased a hat and it didn’t fit? No need to worry here! Love Your Melon offers beanies that are one size, and look great on everyone!

Wash and Wear

These beanies are knitted out of 100% cotton yarn, made in the U.S.A, AND are machine washable!

Plenty of options to choose from:

It is so hard to find hats that match a certain winter coat or your favorite sweater. Luckily, there are countless options to choose from. From natural cream to orchard speckle, there is one for every winter coat out there.

The Logo

The “Love Your Melon” logo is located on every hat, beanie, apparel and accessory you purchase from the website. Every time you wear it, you get to be reminded you bought something from a beautiful nonprofit that helped fight against pediatric cancer!

Shipment:

The company is incredible with their timing. I ordered my beanie and two days later, it came to me in the mail! I could not get over how fast it came and that I was able to wear my new fashion accessory sooner than I thought.

Great Christmas Gifts:

If you are struggling with gift ideas for friends or family, you can find the cutest beanies, caps, sweaters, and other accessories that anyone can enjoy. They will appreciate that the present given to them was also a gift for another.

So, with that said…Love your melon. Buy a cute beanie and rock it! You will not only love your purchase, you will love it even more when you realize you are helping to make a difference in a child’s life. I hope you are happy with your “Love Your Melon” apparel as much as I am!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
