9 Reasons Why You Should Love Ruby Rose (That Aren't About Her Looks)

Since Netflix released it’s third season of "Orange Is The New Black," people around the world have been talking about the newest addition to the show, Ruby Rose. Equipped with an impeccable jawline and infectious smile, she has taken over social media and news outlets. While Rose has gained much of her success because of her physical appearance, here are nine reasons why she truly deserves the spotlight.

1. She persevered through being bullied both for her appearance and her sexuality.

2. She is open about her struggle with depression and the importance of maintaining mental health.

3. In 2013, she travelled to Nepal to support Faircloth and Supply, an organization committed to reducing the sex-trafficking and forced labor rates in Nepal.

4. Rose participated in a charity boxing match to support Headspace. This organization provides services to those with mental illness through guided meditation and mindfulness training.

5. She participated in Maxim and PETA's Campaign "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur."

6. In July of 2014 she released her short film, "Break Free," which destroys normal gender stereotypes and portrays her struggle with gender fluidity.

7. She appeared in a PSA sponsored by Our Watch to raise awareness about gendered violence. In the video, she says, "The long road to family violence starts with the belief that women are possessions, not equals."

8. Using her reach to millions of people through social media, she goes out of her way to improve the lives of others.

9. Most importantly, Rose serves as a role model for those who struggle to conform to "normal" gender binary roles. In an article on After Ellen she said, “The only reason I care about [the attention] is because it is giving people a new type of person to relate to that they may not have had before. We all look for parts of ourselves in other people so we don’t feel alone. So having gay, trans, asexual, gender fluid role models and characters on TV and film is very important.”

Yes, Ruby Rose has a beautiful face. However, what many people are overlooking is how perfectly her soul matches her gorgeous appearance. Let's applaud her not for some genetic miracle that she did not control, but for what she has done out of her own free will and what she continues to do with her growing fame.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
