Mulan is being made into a live action movie and I couldn't be more excited. I have been obsessed with Mulan since the movie came out in 1998 and I can honestly say that she is my favorite Disney princess and I think she is the ultimate feminist.
Here's why:
1. She loves to eat
And she’s can’t stop. Same girl, same.
2. She wakes up like this
Unlike any other Disney princess who wakes up with a full face of makeup, combed hair and smiles on their faces, Mulan is just like the rest of us when we wake up. She wakes up hideous with hair all over the place and she is the perfect representation of reality.
3. At the same time, she is perfect
She has perfectly straight hair, nicely trimmed eyebrows, clear skin and can take off an entire face of makeup with just her sleeve. Can you do that?
4. She’s clumsy
She probably has two left feet, which is fine because we all probably do too. Falling all over the place, even if front of your crush, is a cringe worthy moment that has happened to everyone (or if you’re like me, multiple times).
5. Her dog is her best friend
YO. Is there anything else that’s more important? Your dog is the best thing you can have in life, and Mulan understands that priority.
6. She basically risked her life to protect her loved ones
Would you cut off your hair and join the army?
7. Unlike other princesses, she can basically get through her tough times without magic
8. She can kick ass
And she knows how to handle a sword.
9. She doesn’t marry prince charming, but the army general
Which makes the “fairy-tale-Disney-princess-happily-ever-after” trend a thing of the past.
10. She manages to get shit done in the end, even if it was a little bit messy
Remember when she wrote that cheat sheet on her arm? That just proves that she was serious about getting everything done.
11. She befriends a dragon and a cricket
Need I say more? Mushu is my spirit animal, honestly.
12. She doesn’t let the fact that she’s a woman distract her from saving the day
13. She’s the bona fide feminist that we all need to look up to
It’s safe to say that Mulan is the most realistic Disney princess in the book.
