Dirty Jerz is nothing but constant clubbing and aggressive fist pumping- that is what almost every out of state person thinks of New Jersey. Despite the craziness of Seaside Heights throughout the summer, Jersey carries a terrible reputation, one that is purely from the popular MTV series, The Jersey Shore.
New Jersey holds over 8 million people, all of whom have much pride in their state. As a girl who lived there for several years, I can attest that many teenagers love the MTV series and embrace the tarnished reputation. We love our crazy drivers, delicious food, and even exit 82- Seaside Heights.
Here is a list of a few reasons why I absolutely love and appreciate New Jersey.
1. The Shopping.
If you have ever visited New Jersey, you would agree that we have some of the best shopping areas in the country, and we do not charge a tax on clothing. Boutique after boutique, each place has such varying styles, one that fits any person’s preference. This is just a little dangerous because you are more than likely going to spend your entire paycheck in just a day when visiting Jerz.
2. The Location.
Just to clarify, New Jersey is completely different than New York. Two different atmospheres, with different people, and different lifestyles. However, Jersey is the perfect location if you need to discover or achieve that balance. Take a train to NYC or drive down the Garden State Parkway to any beach- we get the best of both worlds.
3. The Beaches.
Of course, the Shore Points are absolutely beautiful. Some popular beaches consist of Long Branch, Point Pleasant, Long Beach Island, Ocean City, Wildwood, and Belmar- but the list is endless. If you are a New Jersey resident, you have probably experienced excessive traffic on the Garden State Parkway, but the wait is worth it. The drive to the beach makes you excited for some mac and cheese bites and waffles coated in ice cream.
4. The Food.
This is one of the main reasons why I love New Jersey. Other Jersey residents just get it- there is nothing comparable to a slice of hot, greasy pizza with fresh mozzarella from a local Italian restaurant, a newly made morning sandwich consisting of taylor ham, egg, and cheese, or some homemade penne vodka. The thoughts of these foods just makes my mouth water.
One of my favorite places for a quick meal is a restaurant called “Steaks Unlimited.” Located in Seaside Heights, they sell some of the best cheesesteaks and sides of cheeseballs.
5. The People.
The people in New Jersey are mentally tough and openly direct. We all just understand one another and our consistent fast paced lifestyles. We say what is on our minds and do not let anyone tell us differently- and of course, we love to have a good time- that includes aggressive fist pumping to any song that comes on.
Dirty Jerz is my home. Rather than judge the state, learn something about it, visit it, and I promise you, you will never want to leave it.
