I know when we were all younger--and very naive-- we couldn't wait to grow up to be able to do adult things. Now that we are... it sucks. Here are some reasons why.
Having a job. YES independence is the must crucial step to growing up. In order to buy things/stay afloat, you must be employed to be able to afford things. The worst part is GETTING a job--aside from that, it's even harder getting a stable job that can help you pay for your independence. That being said, minimum wage is all that's available, and we all know it's terrible.
So now that you have a job--certainly not your dream job-- if you're lucky enough that FAFSA screws you over, you'll have to help pay for your tuition. That means you're saving, and paying repeatedly, leaving you even more broke than you were before!
If you've managed to save up enough to get a car-- I'm currently in the process-- it's hard. You have to think about insurance, a car note if you have one, gas, and monthly maintenance of your "baby" you so desperately need to get around.
Now, if you've reached this step, kudos to you! Half of your hair may be gone, but you've made it out of your parents' house. This may be the most rewarding experience from all of your hard work, but this comes with responsibilities such as sharing the bill with roommates, dealing with roommates, and co-existing with other people and/or animals.
No matter how far you've come, if you went to college, most likely you're in debt from student loans. People are still paying off debts from college, credit cards, car notes, those damn magazine companies that add you to their subscriptions list without your consent--currently me-- I'm dead. You're dead. We're all dead... debt is the new grim reaper.
So you see, these reasons--and many more-- make growing up TERRIBLE. If you're a kid, please enjoy it. If you're in high school, enjoy it! The saying "Don't Grow Up, It's A Trap" is all too real people!
