1. She’s probably the only student who’s ever actually taken it upon him- or herself to read Hogwarts, a History.
He heard Hermione whisper, “It’s bewitched to look like the sky outside. I read about it in Hogwarts, A History.” – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
“Honestly, am I the only person who’s ever bothered to read Hogwarts, A History?” said Hermione crossly to Harry and Ron. "Probably," said Ron. "Why?" – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
“One day,” said Hermione, sounding thoroughly exasperated, “you’ll read Hogwarts, A History, and perhaps that will remind you that you can’t Apparate or Disapparate inside Hogwarts. Even Voldemort couldn’t just make you fly out of your dormitory, Harry.” – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
“But Hogwarts is hidden,” said Hermione, in surprise. “Everyone knows that … well, everyone who’s read Hogwarts, A History, anyway.” "Just you, then," said Ron. – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
She noticed them all looking at her and said, with her usual air of impatience that nobody else had read all the books she had, “It’s all in Hogwarts, A History. Though, of course, that book’s not entirely reliable. A Revised History of Hogwarts would be a more accurate title. Or A Highly Biased and Selective History of Hogwarts, Which Glosses Over the Nastier Aspects of the School.” – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
“Aren’t you two ever going to read Hogwarts, A History?” “What’s the point?” said Ron. “You know it by heart, we can just ask you.” – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
“You know, I think I will take Hogwarts, A History. Even if we’re not going back there, I don’t think I’d feel right if I didn’t have it with [me]” – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
2. She takes her education very seriously.
"I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could have been all killed -- or worse, expelled. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to bed" – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
3. But also knows what things matter most in life.
"Harry--you're a great wizard,
you know."
"I'm not as good as you," said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let
him go.
"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There are more
important things--friendship and bravery and--oh Harry--be careful!" – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
4. She knows good bonding activities.
“But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. Because there are some things you can't go through in life and become friends, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them." – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
5. She is not immune to silly crushes.
"What's that?" asked
Harry, pointing to something gold sticking out from under Hermione's pillow.
"'Just a Get Well card," said Hermione hastily, trying to poke it out
of sight, but Ron was too quick for her. He pulled it out, flicked it open and
read aloud: 'To Miss Granger, wishing you a speedy
recovery, from your concerned teacher, Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of
Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League and five
times winner of Witch Weekly's
Most-Charming-Smile Award.'
Ron looked up at Hermione, disgusted.
"You sleep with this under your pillow?"
– Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
6. She knows exactly what to do in an emergency.
"That's what Hermione does. When in doubt, go to the library." – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
7. She’s loyal to her pets.
Ron:
"You bought that monster?"
"He's gorgeous, isn't he?"
"Hermione, that thing nearly scalped me!"
"He didn't mean to, did you, Crookshanks? . . . Poor Crookshanks, that
witch said he'd been in there for ages; no one wanted him."
"I wonder why." – Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban
8. And even more loyal to her friends.
Draco
talking about Hagrid: "Look at him blubber! Have you ever seen
anything quite as pathetic?" said Malfoy. "And he's supposed to be
our teacher!"
Harry and Ron both made furious moves toward Malfoy, but Hermione got there
first -- SMACK!
She had slapped Malfoy across the face with all the strength she could muster.
Malfoy staggered. Harry, Ron, Crabbe, and Goyle stood flabbergasted as Hermione
raised her hand again.
"Hermione!" said Ron weakly, and he tried to grab her hand as she
swung it back.
"Get off, Ron!"
Hermione pulled out her wand. Malfoy stepped backward. Crabbe and Goyle looked
at him for instructions, thoroughly bewildered.
"C' mon," Malfoy muttered, and in a moment, all three of them had
disappeared into the passageway to the dungeons. – Harry
Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
9. She stands up for Elfish rights.
"Spew?" said Harry,
picking up a badge and looking at it. "What's this about?"
"Not spew," said Hermione impatiently,
"It's S-P-E-W. Stands for the Society for the Promotion of Elfish
Welfare." – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
10. She’s brutally honest.
"Ron," said Hermione in a dignified voice, dipping the point of her quill into her ink pot, "you are the most insensitive wart I have ever had the misfortune to meet." – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
11. She’s empathetic.
“Well, obviously, she's feeling very sad, because of Cedric dying. Then I expect she's feeling confused because she liked Cedric and now she likes Harry, and she can't work out who she likes best. Then she'll be feeling guilty, thinking it's an insult to Cedric's memory to be kissing Harry at all, and she'll be worrying about what everyone else might say about her if she starts going out with Harry. And she probably can't work out what her feelings towards Harry are anyway, because he was the one who was with Cedric when Cedric died, so that's all very mixed up and painful. Oh, and she's afraid she's going to be thrown off the Ravenclaw Quidditch team because she's flying so badly." A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron said, "One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode.” "Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione nastily, picking up her quill again. – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
12. She’s not above threatening her friends, when need be.
Hermione drew herself to her full
height; her eyes were narrowed and her hair seemed to crackle with electricity.
"No," she said, her voice quivering with anger, "but I will
write to your mother." – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
13. She’s sassy.
“Are you planning to follow a
career in Magical Law, Miss Granger?” asked Scrimgeour.

14. She's happy with who she is.
"Mudblood and proud of it" – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
15. No matter what happens, she's a wonderful friend.
"A warmth was spreading through him that had nothing to do with the
sunlight; a tight obstruction in his chest seemed to be dissolving. He
knew that Ron and Hermione were more shocked than they were letting on,
but the mere fact that they were still there on either side of him,
speaking bracing words of comfort, not shrinking from him as though he
were contaminated or dangerous, was worth more than he could ever tell
them." – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
