Going into my first year of college, I never thought I would join a sorority. I didn't think matching outfits, beer and being exclusive was "my thing." After seeing most of the people I know go through recruitment, I decided I would too, and it was one of the best decisions I made in college. Being involved in Greek life has taught me a lot and helped me adjust to the college life during my first year of college. Here are some of the reasons why Greek life is awesome.

1. Free food.

I repeat: free food. Whether it's an education committee event or recruitment events, there is always free food and that is always a plus! I love food so much.

2. Support.

After I joined Greek life, I gained all the support from my sorority sisters and even people from other sororities and fraternities. If I ever need a ride to Walmart or just need someone to vent to, then I know I can count on my sisters!

3. Sense of belonging.

Being in a sorority gives me a sense of belonging because beyond the classroom, I have somewhere to go to and people I know which is comforting for me. Being in a sorority ensures that I don't feel alone even though I'm far from home, it's like a home away from home.

4. It's more than partying.

Most TV shows depict Greek life as always about parties, alcohol, drugs, etc., but it is much more than that, trust me. Yes, there are parties but people involved in Greek life are not pressured to attend if it's out of their comfort zone or just not their thing. My sorority chapter is centered on our Philanthropy and community service which helps build my resume. In addition to that, Greek life allows us access to more connections and endless opportunities that helps us grow as students and helps us develop for our life after college.

5. Friendship.

When going to college, many people struggle with making friends and that's something I was nervous about when I first got to college. In joining a sorority, I met most of my now-best friends and this helped me feel more comfortable in college.

6. Crafting!

I was never an artsy or super creative person, but after joining a sorority, I did a lot of crafting which showed me a creative side to myself that I've never seen! Also, crafting is such a stress reliever and a fun social thing to do with your sisters.

7. Dressing up.

One of my favorites things about being involved in Greek life, is the fun formals and dances because I have a reason to dress up and do my hair and makeup.

8. My closet is your closet.

Yes you read that right. What do you get when you are in a group with a bunch of girls? Their closets, duh. It's not ideal for me to always buy new clothes for a certain event with my tight college budget so it's nice having the luxury to borrow clothes from my fellow sisters.

There are so much more reasons to love Greek life! But if you're still pondering the thought of joining Greek life, then I suggest you join and get the feel of it for yourself because it's totally worth it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
