Reasons Why Boy Bands Were Our First True Love

Ever since I was a little kid, I always had that one song that was known as “the feel good” song. This song would change my mood and brighten my day almost instantly whether I heard it on the radio, played a certain CD, or bought in on iTunes. Even til this day I still have that one song that can change my mood in the blink of an eye. The one thing that has not changed about this song is that it is 99.99% by a boy band. Boy bands make the female world complete, and they all have three similar things in common: they are hot, they are musicians, and they wear tight leather pants.

It does't matter there genre, it matters that they are boys and they sing. My favorite boy bands range from N*Sync, Jonas Brothers, Fall Out Boy, We The Kings, Metro Station, Maroon 5, The Backstreet Boys, Boys Like Girls, Jimmy Eat World, The All-American Rejects, and One Direction (Have you seen Harry Styles? *Swoon*). These boy bands fill our imaginations and hearts with excitement. I consider them to be my first true love because they made my heart flutter and my stomach fill with butterflies whenever a new song was/is released. Their songs have taught us that boys are the cutest things in the world, they make mistakes, love still exists, and traveling to the Year 3000 is possible.

The love for boy bands started all the way back in the 90’s with N*Sync and The Backstreet Boys. I can almost guarantee that I have every CD and I am not afraid to bring them out for a little throwback any day of the week. Not to mention, The Backstreet Boys taught us that even if you are a Kevin, there is still a place for you. As I got older, the world introduced three brothers who changed my little world. They were known as the Jonas Brothers, and I can still sing every one of their songs. The Jonas Brothers had me so hooked that I bought all of their CD’s, magazines they were featured in, and had all their posters on my walls (Especially Joe Jonas). Then, The All-American Rejects were introduced in my life and they taught me that everyone has a dirty little secret. And, that brings up a whole new world of boy bands like Fall Out Boy, Metro Station, and Boys Like Girls.

These bands brought out my more crazy and adventurous side with classic rock-out songs like “Love Drunk,” “Sugar, We’re Going Down”, and “Shake It.” I could go on and on about all of my favorite songs by numerous boy bands, but I'll spare you. These boy bands helped shape who we are, who our friends are, and make the perfect playlists for road trips and laying out by the pool. Even in college, I still have a true love for boy bands. When One Direction popped up, I felt something in my heart I had not felt in a while, and I have been caught multiple times jamming to their music. It really is a guilty pleasure.

Boy bands may come and go, but they will always have a special place in my heart when I am old and grey. Because of the boy bands, I will be the rebellious grandma in the nursing home with blue hair and a sparkly walker. So thank you boy bands for shaping my world and teaching me that boys are not that bad, and that they can be fun to have around.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
