Be honest with yourself for a second now, if you live anywhere near the west coast you have undoubtedly thought about making the trek to one of America’s finest landmarks. So what’s holding you back? Why don’t you finally just say “F*** it”, get up and go? That’s exactly what I did this past weekend; I drove through the night to make the most out of the trip of a lifetime with the love of my life, and spent 48 hours exploring one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen.

The Grand Canyon will take your breath away, so ditch the parties next weekend and adventure a little.

1. The drive is worth it. Coming from Arizona, I can honestly say that sometimes those car rides get repetitive and boring, but not this one! The majority of the routes to the Canyon take you through both Sedona and Flagstaff; two cities that you are going to want to see. The landscape is constantly changing; the color of the treacherous mountains and hills varies with each mile you travel. Some of the mountains even have snow on top, sending chills up your spine just looking at. If you are easily entertained by nature, I suggest riding shotgun because it’s quite hard not to stare while driving safely.
2. The cell service stinks. Very few people reading this will consider the lack of service a bad thing, but if you are one of those people, the Canyon is not for you. It might actually be one of the few places in the world where all you can hear is the voice of those standing next to you, and all you can see is the majestic views of the canyon below. Nothing else in the world even seems to matter when you’re there. Want to Snapchat your view? You can’t. Want to send your friends from home pictures? Not going to happen. Want to Tweet/Facebook your location? Dream on. The Wi-Fi is non-existent, and that’s what makes it so incredibly wonderful.
3. Sunsets. When researching where to go to watch one of the best sunsets in the world, the decision was surprisingly easy. Anywhere. The Grand Canyon is full of cliffs to throw a blanket down to sit and hang your feet over. The anticipation is unreal while waiting for this natural phenomenon to occur over one of the most colorful, clear skies I have ever witnessed. Once the sun starts to set, it’s gone in an instant, so be sure not to miss it! Bonus: the canyon turns an entirely different color when the sun is set. What you thought couldn’t get any prettier, is suddenly transformed.
4. No matter where you go, there is a view you will remember forever. That view is also one that appears unreal, straight out of a movie. The views occasionally take your breath away. Regardless of how many pictures you have seen, nothing compares to the beauty that comes with seeing the sights for yourself, in person. Even just the drive into, out of, and around the Grand Canyon is effortlessly beautiful. If you go around wintertime, you are sure to see patches of snow, or fresh flakes on trees, making the trek around the canyon well worth it.
5. The weather. No matter when you go, or what the weather is like at the time, nothing will ruin your view. I was lucky and went when there were clear blue skies, no clouds in sight, the temperature was not too cold, not too hot, but just perfect. I am convinced, however, that regardless of what the weather was like, absolutely nothing would ruin the trip. Clouds began to form as I was departing and rain began to pour down, but even then, the views were beautiful and totally different from anything I’ve ever seen before.
6. You are reminded of all nature has to offer. There are no distractions, no loud activities and no commotions. When sitting on the edge of the canyon, you are reminded of how wonderful nature is. It is hard not to appreciate something so stunning, an accidental phenomenon created by the earth itself.
7. The diversity among the groups of people there. While wandering around the canyon, stopping at each and every checkpoint possible, and driving through countless campsites, the number of languages you hear is incalculable. It is evident that people really do come from all over the world to witness this phenomenon. If only you could understand the wonderful things they were saying…now that would be cool.
8. It’s sanitary. Perhaps one of the cleanest places I have ever been. There is no trash anywhere; people simply seem to have a certain, greater respect for the earth. Even the air there feels cleaner to breathe in.
9. It's affordable. Whether you stay in a hotel minutes from the entrance to the Canyon or gear up and camp out, the expenses are minimal. You should pack sack lunches, cook small meals and stay hydrated. There is absolutely nothing you need other than someone special to share the views with, and a place to rest your head after a long day well-spent exploring.
