Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Sure, summer is nice and all, with its swim-worthy warmth and its lack of classes. However, I think we can all agree that nothing is more lovely and more temperate than the beautiful season of fall. Just imagine the rustling of dried leaves and glow of a warm fire and try not to fall in love with this enchanting time of year.
In case that doesn’t do the trick, I have compiled a brief list that is sure to convince you that fall is the greatest of the four seasons.
- Weather: With the fall season you get the best of both worlds. During the first few days, the sun may cast enough heat to allow for one last swim. During the last few days, the temperature may drop enough to allow for the year’s first frost. Throughout the majority of the season however, the weather is gloriously crisp and cool. There’s the occasional rain that keeps you inside, cuddled up with a good book (or Netflix, if you prefer). Then there are those perfect cloudless days that lure you outside from dawn to dusk.
- Candles: Now maybe this is just me, but I am a sucker for fall-scented candles. I don’t know exactly what fall leaves smell like, but I can tell you that I have about 5 of Bath & Body Works’ “Leaves” candles sitting in my room right now. From pumpkin spice to cinnamon apple, the warm scents of fall candles are just one of the many reasons to love this season.
- Leaves: The trees transform from their envious green to varying shades of yellow, red, and orange. What is more magnificent than a row of maple trees in the fall? Answer: nothing. Even when the leaves fall and branches are left bare, there is still something beautiful about a leaf-covered path. Each step is accompanied by a pleasant crunch, reminding you that you that you are alive and experiencing the most marvelous time of year.
- Clothes: It is officially time to shed those sweat-soaked tank tops and t-shirts and put on those over-sized sweaters. I do not care if you are a male or a female. Everyone can appreciate a good sweater. Fall is also the time when ladies can finally put their leggings back on. There are also scarves and beanies and boots and fuzzy socks. Fall makes feeling comfortable and looking trendy an absolute cakewalk.
- Shaving: This one might be a bit personal, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that it is such a relief to not feel obligated to shave. Ladies, you wear those pants and forget about the hair that lies underneath. Guys, Movember was made for you. Put down that razor and own that lumberjack aesthetic.
- Festivities: First we have Halloween. Festivities include pumpkin carving, haunted houses, trick-or-treating, costume parties, and ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween marathon. Then there is Thanksgiving, which typically involves getting lost in corn mazes, eating until you can’t move, spending quality time with your family, and then leaving them to spend all of your money Black Friday shopping.
- Food: Aside from the fact that Thanksgiving is the most food-filled day of the year, fall offers good eats every other day of the season as well. Nothing says fall like sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie. While we’re talking about comfort foods, we should mention the comfort drinks as well. Apple cider, hot chocolate, and Starbucks’ seasonal lattes are sure to keep you cozy during the cooler months.
- Snuggling : This does not necessarily require another person. Just be sure to grab a blanket. Make yourself warm drink. Grab a good book or your favorite movie. Start a fire if you’d like. Curl up on your couch. Enjoy the cool and early nights that the end of Daylight Savings brings.
Take note that this is an incomplete list. There is also football season for all you sports enthusiasts and the countdown to Christmas for all you gung-ho Santa fanatics. There are countless reasons to be excited about fall. It truly is a wonderful time of year that hath all too short a date.
Take that, Shakespeare.
