Coming into college, I had a boyfriend and I really thought he was all I needed to be happy. But once I joined a sorority and a year passed and I didn’t have him anymore, I realized the sisters and friends I have made in college are the people I need in my life. My sisters are my true best friends for so many reasons.
1. They always compliment me. Girls always value a guy's opinion on their outfits and how they look, but nothing beats a genuine compliment from my sister who actually knows a thing or two about what actually looks good on me.
2. They’ve seen me at my worst and they still love me the same. My sisters have seen me at the lowest of lows and have never treated me differently because of it.
3. They accept me for who I am and I don’t have to change a thing. Most girls are willing to change for boys by acting a certain way to get a boy's attention. But sisters like mine love me even though I have the most annoying laugh in the world and I never stop singing.
4. They never leave me alone. Whenever I’m having a bad day or even a great day, someone is always in my room keeping me company.
5. They help me with homework. Let's face it, boys aren’t the best at being responsible. But when it comes to my sisters, they keep me on my toes.
6. They are always willing to get food. No matter what they may be doing, if I text them about getting food, they are always down.
7. They are the best listeners. No matter how many times I complain about something, my sisters always listen and give me the best advice they can think of.
8. They accept my flaws because honestly, we all have them. Nobody is perfect, but when you find sisters like mine who love my imperfections, there is no better feeling.
Looking back on the friendships I made in high school, I am even more thankful for the sisters that I have gained in college. The boyfriends I had didn’t deserve the amount of time I gave them. My sisters deserve so much and I am so thankful I have finally decided to put myself and friendships over guys because at the end of the day, my sisters will still be there and the boys won’t. They’ve shown me what I truly deserve and have always pushed me to be the best person I can be.
