I'm originally from a Houston suburb, so I guess that makes this article a little biased. However, I never wanted to live in Houston until recently. I was all about the “Austin fad" or moving to Dallas because that's what everyone else does. However, I have recently become to love “my" city, and I think it's the best place for people to move after graduation.
1. If you claim to be “indie" or “artsy" or “hipster," Austin isn't the only place that has food trucks and cool wall murals. From hot dogs to crepes, Houston's got the food trucks, too.
2. The museum district is honestly pretty cool. Check out the art museums, science museum or history museum.
3. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I'm pretty sure it's one of the biggest.
4. Memorial Park is one of the largest parks in the United States. It's the perfect place to walk, jog or have a picnic.
5. You can tour the Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
6. The Houston Rockets (or Texans, or Dynamo). Sports games are always so fun here.
7. It's surrounded by great suburbs such as, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Spring, Tomball and more. Be sure to visit Old Town Spring for some antiques.
8. It's honestly just as weird as Austin, but just as cool and classy as Dallas.
9. Free Press Summer Fest – Houston's newest music festival, every June. You get to go see big-name artists pretty much in your backyard.
10. YOU CAN FIND A JOB. The job market in Houston is huge and continuously growing. From medicine, to public relations - there is something here for you.
11. There's lots of shopping. From the Galleria to Rice Village to Highland Village, you'll never have to shop online.
12. The FOOD. There is every kind. And it's everywhere. Go to Montrose for some awesome, local eats.
13. It's beautiful. From Rice University to the Houston skyline, there's always something nice to look at.
14. There are so many concert venues – House of Blues, Warehouse Live and more. There's no doubt your favorite band is bound to play sometime.
15. Midtown. So many postgrads go out to Midtown – it's such a cool downtown, nightlife atmosphere.
16. The people are friendly. Genuinely.
17. There are many plays to see. Sometimes, Cirque du Soleil even makes an appearance on its tour.
18. While it may be the grossest beach, you're super close to Galveston if you're ever feeling a beach day!
19. It's rated pretty high in “top cities in the U.S." If I'm not mistaken, it's been number one before.
20. Just trust our word – people who live there love it and probably wouldn't want to ever live anywhere else.
