College is tough. Exams and papers every week, finding time to just relax while you study at home, alone; it takes a toll both mentally and physically. Everyone needs a little TLC and what better way to get it than by having a dog! Science even supports it!

1) Dogs keep you active.

If you're like me, then you probably avoid all possible forms of physical activity unless absolutely necessary. However, everyone needs some active movement and a little Vitamin D. With a dog, you can make some time to walk them when needed depending on the breed you get. It doesn't have to be a long walk; even 5 minutes can be enough for both you and your furry friend.

2) They can reduce your stress and blood pressure.

Interacting with a dog can increase the release of oxytocin, that feel-good hormone, and decrease cortisol which is linked to being a stress-inducing hormone. This can be by simply petting your pooch or taking a moment to go for a walk outside. According to the American Heart Association pets can help reduce blood pressure. In a study they conducted, they found that people with pets were less likely to have high blood pressure caused by mental stress.

3) Dogs make you calmer, mindful, and organized.

With a dog in the picture, you need to be responsible and plan your day around him/her. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It can make you be more organized and mindful of other things in your life besides yourself. Plus, when you are more organized of your schedule and get things done, you tend to be calmer as a result. I love the feeling of being able to cross things off my to do list.

4) You are more likely to recover from an illness if you own a dog.

It's no surprise that dog owners feel better when their four-legged friend is by their side. People suffering from a cold to post heart attack are more likely to recover faster if they own a dog. Which makes sense because every dog owner wants to be well enough to go on walks and play fetch with their loved ones.

5) Dogs can drastically increase your mood.

Sadly, depression is on the rise in the world and is becoming more common in all age groups. Having a dog, or any kind of pet, can make people more present in their lives; ultimately giving them a reason to be and stay happy. Dogs can sense when you are sad and therefore do what they can to make you happy again. Including tons of kisses and cuddles.

6) Students are less likely to skip school when they own a dog.

Everybody wants their canine companions to be proud of them and we can all use the extra motivation to get through the day. For a college student, you will have the motivation of studying hard so that you can provide your dog with the best life possible. Which means Amazon shopping with student prime and free fast shipping is a must!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
