When I was growing up, I was one of those kids who hated rainy days. Looking at the cup half empty, I associated rain with darkness and cloudy skies with sadness and gloom. Aside from serving its known purpose of replenishing the earth, I never truly considered how wonderful rain could be. Now, as a college student -- who relishes every moment of tranquility that she can find -- I have come to appreciate the ambient serenity that rainy days can provide. Here are 11 reasons why rainy days are the best days.
1. The sound of falling rain is the most relaxing sound... ever.
It's absolutely perfect nap weather.
2. The scent of rain is invigorating and inspiring.
When it rains, I feel more in touch with nature, and as a result, I usually feel inspired to create art -- whether that be through a poem or a visual piece.
3. You have a great excuse to cancel your plans.
Attending dinners, parties and socializing with humans who pretend to enjoy your company because they feel bad for you when they realize that you are pitifully socially awkward? No thanks. As an introvert, I'd much rather spend time alone.
4. Cancelling your plan to go for a 5-mile run.
Let's be real: You probably weren't looking forward to that either.
5. You can stay in bed and get caught up with your assigned readings.
You have an endless pile of assignments, and your bed is the most comfortable place on earth. Why sit at your desk when you can get your work done while lying in bed?
6. You can stay in bed and watch Netflix.
We're all addicted to Netflix. It's OK.
7. If you're a night owl like me, you appreciate the lack of sunlight.
Looks like nighttime has arrived a few hours early. I'm wide awake now!
8. If you're a more outdoorsy person, you can jump in a rain puddle.
This is on my bucket list.
9. You can sing "Singin' in the Rain" as you walk -- or skip -- to class.
Sure, you can sing and dance your way to class anytime, but maybe this once, you'll seem clever -- and not so crazy -- for doing so (even though it doesn't matter what other people think, and you know that we'd all be better off if real life was a musical).
10. Rainboots. Enough said.
They're the most fun, fabulous and functional footwear to have ever been invented. (They do make annoying squeaking sounds when you walk, but that's just another reason to love them.)
11. You can spend some much-needed quality time with your pet.
In all honesty, pets are the best.
