We all have idols we look up to. Sometimes we shouldn’t meet them out of fear of seeing who they really are—completely different from what we see on TV or YouTube. I have read many embarrassing stories of meeting celebrities online. I have heard my friend's story of meeting their idols briefly at a convention. Heck, my mom told me about meeting my father’s idol. All of them had different experience with their faves. I, however, want to meet my idol, even though she is on the other side of the world.

This is Amber. Amber J. Liu.

If you are a K-Pop fan, you may know her as a rapper of a little group called f(x). She has rapped and composed numerous f(x) music. She also releases solo music since last year. Amber has dabbled in singing, editing music videos and creating content on her YouTube channel. She is also making her acting debut in Korean version of "Entourage" on the big screen.

She isn’t afraid to be herself.

I discovered Amber in high school when my friends introduced me to the world of K-Pop. One of my friends loved f(x) because their member, Amber, doesn’t wear dresses. At the time I applauded Amber for not being the usual girl-next-door artist in a genre like K-Pop. However, I didn't fully appreciate her until I got into college.

For those who know me, I have a very low self-esteem. If I could describe my self-esteem on a graph, it would be somewhere between -600 and -500. It used to be in -1000s. In college, I debated whether or not I should act like myself around other people. I always doubted myself for every decision I made, especially when I write poetry. During my second year I started to re-watched her music videos, including their latest single “4 Walls.” After binge-watching her videos, I watched her interviews and more of her music videos. I instantly became a fan of hers. Her feelings towards music and life really impacted me as a person than when I first listened to her in high school. She motivated me to be a better person. Being humble on my success and failures. Now, I have heard that I shouldn’t meet my idol in real life.

You know what? I want to meet Amber in person! I can see us as potential friends. We have many things in common, reasons why Amber and I could be great pals.

1. We were born and raised in United States.

She was from Los Angeles before she went to Korea. I was born and lived in Colorado before I moved to California then Oregon.

2. We love Pokemon.

3. She loves music as much as I do.

4. We love to learn new things.

5. She is a goofball.

She would appreciate all of my (bad) puns.

6. She is friends with almost everyone.

I have been told that I know way too many people, so that counts right?

7. She writes her own lyrics.

I am majoring in creative writing.

8. She wears pants and occasionally gym shorts and khakis. All the time.

So do I.

9. She proudly claims she is a llama.

I am pretty much an equivalent to a Pikachu.

10. She has a cat and dog. I have a cat and dog too.

We're almost the same but with different breeds.

11. She is BFFs with Kevin from U-Kiss.

Coincidentally, U-Kiss is my favorite group of all time and I happened to write an article about them.

12. Her other BFF and label mate, Henry from Super Junior M, tries to tease her by claiming she has a crush on him.

But Lord knows that it will never match to her comeback.

When my guy friends try to mess with me, I answer with a pun.

13. She redefines “Squad Goals.”

Sorry, Taylor. Even I can't match up to her list of friends.

14. She describes herself as flawless or fabulous on many occasions.

I wake up being fabulous every morning.

15. She is a Tori Kelly fangirl.

“Confetti” is my favorite song.

16. Her song “Borders” is relatable af to her and my life on so many levels.

17. She continues to break barriers and the stereotype of what is means to be a female.

18. She advocates self-love and accepting yourself through her music and stage presence.

19. She low-key calls out problematic BS like there is no tomorrow.

20. She loves tacos.

I love tacos.

21. She is practically married to boba tea if not her career.

I secretly send love letters to boba tea.

OK, so maybe I sound unrealistic on my potential friendship with a K-Pop star like Amber. However, Amber continues to be a reminder on being happy and never be afraid to be who I am. So when I do have to meet Amber, I hope we would at least say “hi” to each other or have a random Pokemon battle while wearing a Pokemon onesie.

If Amber found this article (when will that ever happen), I want to say to her that she is a talented and wonderful human being. Please continue to be who you are and motivate people like me to love ourselves but stay humble.

P.S. I wrote a poem based a tweet from Amber. Let’s just say I bet she will love it. It’s not “Borders” level amazing, but it is still amazing just like me.

P.S.S. Amber if you're really reading this, I want to say I'm a big fan of your music and I love you. Let's be friends. Okay bye.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
