6 Reasons To Thank Your Long Distance Best Friend
Courtney Streeto

Three and a half years ago I started my freshman year of college and met my current best friend. Unfortunately, the college didn't work out for me, and I moved home after only a semester, but the friendship continued. I was fairly certain that over time the distance would cause us to grow apart, especially since we had just met that year. But instead, we've grown closer than ever despite being farther apart. Even though she's 155 miles away, I know I can count on her for absolutely anything.

I know I'm not unique in this situation. Whether you met your best friend at school, or left them back home, there's no doubt that they are important to you. Here are some reasons you should thank your long distance best friend.

1. For being only a phone call away.

Any time you have a problem, you know she'll be there to help, even in the middle of the night. You may be miles and miles away, but a call or a text cancels out that distance immediately. She's your go-to girl for any issue, and knowing she will answer the phone whenever you call shows her dedication to your friendship.

2. For giving her non-biased opinion.

If you get into a fight with one of your at home friends, she most likely wasn't there. So when you tell her what happened, she can see the situation from an outsider's perspective. The same thing happens when you're wondering if maybe the guy in your lecture likes you. She's able to tell you if you were wrong in the situation or if the guy is just playing games. It's a great thing to have in a friend, and it's helped you out many times.

3. For keeping you entertained on all forms of social media.

You can go months without seeing each other, so Snapchat becomes the go to way to see your best way to see your best friend's face. You know you are prettiest to each other when you make the ugliest faces, and you have a collection of those to save for a special birthday shoutout. Whenever you see something that remotely reminds you of her on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you tag her immediately. Social media helps to keep you connected. It's almost like you're not hundreds of miles apart. Almost.

4. For never getting on your nerves.

One of the downsides of living right next to you is that you sometimes spend a little too much time together. That is never an issue with your long distance best friend. You can't annoy each other. Instead, you can only focus on the good things each other.

5. For making your meet up days the most special days ever.

Since you guys only get to see each other a few times a year or less, you make those days special. You start planning months in advance and schedule plenty of things to do, but you also make sure to leave time to just hang out and enjoy each other's company. You make sure to take lots of pictures together, and your home friends know that this time is reserved for your long distance best friend. Because for you guys, this is like a holiday.

6. For always having your back.

Because no matter how long it's been since you've seen each other or how far apart you are in miles, you are close in heart. She will always be there for you, and you can't thank her enough.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
