Auburn Kappa Kappa Gamma

1. Leadership.

Every year, Kappa Kappa Gamma National Headquarters has a leadership conference. Each chapter will pick one representative to attend. One of the many things I have enjoyed about being a Kappa Kappa Gamma is that we are always encouraged to get involved within the chapter on campus and within the community. It is amazing that Kappa Kappa Gamma encourages sisters to empower themselves and learn the qualities of being a great leader.

2. You have 3 symbols to choose from.

How awesome is it that Kappa Kappa Gamma has not only one symbol to represent the sisterhood but three? The owl, the key, and the fleur-de-lis respresent so many definitive parts of the Kappa sisterhood and also sound great in sorority cheers.

3. We have a Lilly print.

Need I say more?

4. Our philanthropy promotes literacy and helps to provide books to children.

The Huffington Post stated that 32 million adults in the United States cannot read. That number seems so crazy when you think about it. Many of us were taught to read as soon as we walked into class on that first day of kindergarten, but for some children it just is not that easy. Kappa Kappa Gamma's philanthropy Reading is Fundamental partners with Jean D. Rif to help bring books to children who otherwise would not have them. Most chapters of Kappa Kappa Gamma also have local Jean D. Rif warehouses where they can go to help box books and volunteer.

5. The Kappa Foundation.

The Kappa Foundation helps to provide so many scholarships to sisters all over the globe. Each year, sisters are encouraged to apply for scholarships. These scholarships can help fund tuition, books, and even help to pay chapter dues.

6. We have our own rap.

If you have not heard the Kappa Rap, you are seriously missing out. Baylor Kappa Kappa Gamma made an awesome recruitment video in 2010 and the song has been a hit ever since. If you are a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma then you most likely know all the words and are not ashamed to admit it.

7. The philanthropy events are the coolest.

Not only do we promote literacy, but we also raise money and give books to those in need. Auburn Kappa puts on a Kappa Kolor Run, USC holds an annual Kappa Kapture the Flag event, and all the other chapters put on great events as well. It is amazing how much fun you can have while also raising money for a great cause.

These are just a few of the reasons that Kappa Kappa Gamma is the place to be. I found my home here four years ago and without Kappa in my life my college career would have been drastically different. I feel like I grew up within the halls of Kappa and I am so thankful I did. For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
