Being independent doesn't mean you're a loser or that you have no friends. Being independent means that you're perfectly content and able to take care of yourself -- that you don't rely on others for your happiness. Even though it is super important to have connections with friends and family, it is also very important to be confident enough to do things on your own. Here are some reasons why being independent is worthwhile.
1. You control your own destiny.
Being independent means that you don't have anyone telling you what to do with your life and that you can make decisions for yourself based on what you desire, not what someone else wants for you.
2. You get to be yourself.
When you don't act, think or behave like others want you to then you're left to be yourself. What can be better than being the amazing person you are and showing the world what you have to offer?
3. You learn how to take care of yourself.
When you know how to take care of yourself then taking care of others comes easier. There won't be someone to take care of you 24/7, so it is important for you to be able to do so yourself. Plus, who knows what you like better than yourself?!
4. You will be less upset.
When you are emotionally dependent on others you tend to drag them into situations in your life that you may not necessarily want to. More emotional dependence from others can mean that you will be less disappointed and upset in life since you're not depending on others to make you happy. Support from others is important, but there is a difference between support and dependence on someone for happiness.
5. Your self-esteem will go up.
Being independent gives you the chance to make your own decisions and with those decisions come goals you want to achieve. Reaching those goals will in return raise your self-esteem and confidence. Whether they are financial, emotional, social or career goals, reaching them does nothing but good for you.
