Let me start this off by saying, I know what you're thinking. A white girl writing an article about how great Autumn is: how original. I know this is very basic, but I can not be expected to hold in my love for fall any longer. I have tried to hold it in to spare myself the taunts of being the common white girl, but it had to come out. F. Scott Fitzgerald said it best when he said, "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
First off, I'm ready for the weather. I love summer and all, but I would love to walk across campus without melting into a puddle of sweat. I am ready for cool autumn nights instead of blistering summer days. The middle of fall is the perfect weather. When the leaves start to fall, it automatically lifts my mood. Lauren DeStefano once stated, "Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year long for the grand finale."
I am thoroughly convinced that if you make something pumpkin flavored then it's automatically better. So when limited edition pumpkin flavored food and coffee come out, we (I'm speaking for the majority of white girls) go crazy. There is just something about it that I can't explain. And don't get me started on pumpkin candles (I have one lit as I type). Good gracious, how can something smell so good? I don't know how you do it pumpkins, but you kill it in every area of the game. Keep doing you.
Another reason I love fall is because of the fashion. It is easy to look cute and be comfy during Autumn. Anyone can wear a flannel or a piko top and pull it off. You actually wear them because they're so comfy, but everyone also compliments you. Sorry Blair Waldorf, but wearing leggings as pants is awesome. It creates the illusion that you actually tried to look cute, but really you're just wearing the sweatpants version of pseudo-pants. Plus wearing long pants all the time means no shaving, so its honestly a win-win situation.
Fall also means football season. If you know anything about football in the South, then you know that it is not a game but a lifelong commitment. Therefore, when game day comes along, people put football above everything. There are tailgates, potlucks, and parties all over the South on football Saturdays. A football Saturday starts early and the festivities last all day. The atmosphere is unique and cannot be created any other time of the year.
One of the best things about fall is the holidays. During one holiday, you are allowed to dress up as whatever you want to be, and the other is known as the 'eat all you can' day. Halloween is just a fun holiday, where everyone dresses up as someone or something they've always wanted to be, and get candy for free. How awesome is that? I know fall is lacking in the school break department. It isn't like winter or spring break. But the measly break is made up with the absences due to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving allows everyone to realize how #blessed they are, while devouring a buffet of homemade food. How much better can it get?
There is so many things to do in the fall that is not accessible in any other season. I love going to pumpkin patch and picking pumpkins to carve. I also love going to corn mazes and haunted houses. Fall just offers a variety of activities and activities that aren't available year-round.
Even though it adds to my basic-ness, I will never stop talking about my love of pumpkin-scented candles and Autumn.
