When considering a field to pursue, always go with what you love. Don’t over think it or go with what everyone wants you to be. When choosing a career, you need to realize that what you choose is what you will be doing for the rest of your life. For me, it was just easier for me to decide my career choice by not thinking about it at all. I just went with the flow, and, honestly, I think my career choice found me. I chose to become an EMT/paramedic. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that it is not for everyone. There are times when I start to reconsider, but I just remember all the reasons why we need EMT/paramedics. Hopefully, this will help you determine if pursuing this field is right for you, or it will help you see why I am glad I chose it.
One reason why I chose this career is because they are always in demand. Because hey, who doesn’t love job security? I believe you can never have too many EMTs or paramedics around. Also, you will almost always be able to find a job, no matter where you go. Depending on where you go or where you are, you will be paid more, but, of course, it depends on how dangerous the environment is around you. For example, if you live in Alaska, you would be more likely to be paid more than if you lived somewhere that rarely has any dangerous terrain.
I chose to become an EMT/paramedic because I have always had an interest in the medical field. It was also very easy for me to understand when taking medical classes in high school, which furthered me to pursue this career. It is also a very good start if you want to ascend the career ladder to eventually become a physician or medical doctor. It will provide a good basis for you and will make it easier to understand if you further your career education.
Finally, I chose this career simply because I love helping others. Personally, I have always taken an interest in helping others, whether it be medical, physical, emotional or in any way I can. For me, I specifically took interest in helping them medically. I have always wanted to become a part of something bigger than myself and make a difference, so I feel that this is the right place for me. I specifically chose to help people medically because you could be the difference between them living or dying. It’s a very risky job choice but I feel that it is very humbling and will always be a reminder to always be safe in everything you do and will serve as experience when advising others to play it safe.
Although these are just a few reasons why to pursue this job, these are the most important reasons to me why I chose this field of work. Again, its not for everybody, but it takes a special kind of person to be able to handle those kinds of life or death situations. I believe that I am, and I hope you are too. Hopefully, this helped you to begin determining whether this field is the right one for you, but if not, hopefully this gives you a more general knowledge.
